Diabetic care takes foothold

Taking care of feet is more important than many realize and takes more than pulling on socks and lacing up shoes each day, especially for diabetics.

“Diabetic foot ulcers are the most common reason for amputation of lower extremities in the U.S.,” Auglaize County Medical Director Dr. Juan Torres said.

The ulcers most often occur on the ball of the foot or the bottom of the big toe, he explained. They also can occur on the sides of the foot, usually due to poorly fitting shoes.

Several crashes caused by icy conditions in Wapakoneta

Wapakoneta police officers responded early Monday morning to several crashes caused by icy roads from a New Year’s Day light snow.

Katlinn Cox, 21, 612 Perry St., was cited for failure to maintain reasonable control after she failed to negotiate a curve on Industrial Drive due to icy conditions and slid the 2001 Chevrolet Malibu she was driving into a 1998 General Motors Sonoma driven by Robin Wheaton, 57, of 217 N. Rauthland Ave., according to an officer’s report from the Wapakoneta Police Department.

Local shop keeps busy with bridal season

With the new year starting, this is currently the busiest season for bridal shows and prom dress shopping.

Local bridal shops, including Simply Elegant, are keeping up with the current trends and are preparing for trunk shows in the coming months to display gowns, veils and jewelry for that special day.

“A few weeks before Christmas is our quiet time,” Simply Elegant Formals owner Brenda Johns said. “There is time there to prepare for the upcoming season.”
