More donations to be accepted for tennis new courts

More than $25,000 in donations for new tennis courts adjacent to Wapakoneta High School are expected to be accepted by Wapakoneta City Schools Board of Education members during Tuesday’s board meeting.
The donations to be accepted at the meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. at the school board office, include $16,000 from Wapakoneta Rotary Club, $7,500 from the Wapakoneta City Recreation Department, and $2,000 from Miller’s Textile.
Wapakoneta City Schools Superintendent Keith Horner said to date 85 percent of the project has been funded by donations.

BBQ dinners to benefit area family

Barbeque chicken dinners are being sold to benefit an area family, who had lost their home due to a fire earlier this summer.
A benefit barbeque chicken dinner will be held for area couple Rachel and Tom Huelskamp. The couple, along with their four children, lost their home and all of it’s contests in a house fire on July 18.
The American Legion, in Wapakoneta, will be cooking up the meals on Sept. 9, and pick-up is available at the American Legion site, along with the Trupointe branches in Botkins, St. Marys, New Bremen, Uniopolis or Wapakoneta.

Lifeguard uses job to enhance skills

At times the job of lifeguard can become mundane.
But Wapakoneta’s Kayla Prater finds the job anything but mundane as she has taken the position as a chance to enhance her communications skills since she has chosen that area as her future profession.
Prater, who began working at the park her sophomore year of high school, has now worked at the Wapakoneta WaterPark for four years and has become a familiar, friendly face to its many patrons over the summer months. She is now beginning her second year at Ohio University working on earning a degree in communications studies.
