Local residents can join Charles Dickens in his study as history, humor and holiday come to life as he tells the story of âA Christmas Carol.â
Scrooge and all the characters of Charles Dickensâ holiday story will take the stage for the final show of the season at Wapakoneta Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, in âThe Night Before Christmas Carol,â a special take on the classic Christmas story written by Dickens in 1843.
For those wanting to support Wapakoneta City Schools, they need only to purchase groceries at Kroger with a special card.
To start, those interested purchase a gift card from the school district for $1. Money can be continuously reloaded onto the card.
Two votes ended up being the difference in the race for Uniopolis mayor.
By two votes, the incumbent Uniopolis mayor was re-elected to his fifth term, according to official results of the Nov. 8 general election released Wednesday by the Auglaize County Elections Board.
No final outcomes of other countywide races changed based on official election results after provisional ballots were added into totals.
Through an agreement with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Auglaize County Solid Waste District recently made changes and updates to its rules and regulations.
Auglaize County Solid Waste Coordinator Dave Reichelderfer said the update is part of a normal process but was something that was long overdue.
âWhen we submitted a plan to the EPA we said we would review some of the rules we have and update them,â Reichelderfer said. âWe have finally done that. Itâs something we should have done quite a while ago.â
In another move meant to help watch spending, Wapakoneta City Schools Board of Education members appointed two administrators as purchasing agents and change order authorizers for the district.
Superintendent Keith Horner and Operations Director Mike Watt were approved this week to give the authorization for change orders up to 10 percent of the original contract award amount, not to exceed $25,000, with a follow-up report made to board members at the next regularly scheduled meeting.

Preparations to sell a building which houses transportation, food services and maintenance personnel for Wapakoneta City Schools are to move forward.
Wapakoneta City Schools Board of Education members voted unanimously to proceed in preparing the building at 3 North Pine St. for sale during a regular meeting Tuesday.
Wapakoneta City Schools Operations Director Mike Watt said part of those preparations include marketing the property, getting people to see it and making adjustments to locations where the offices are to move.
For years, the Engle family would get up early on Thanksgiving Day, pop cinnamon rolls in the oven and enjoy them as they watched the Macyâs Thanksgiving Day Parade on television.
This year, an absence will be felt at the Engle household. Wapakoneta High School 2011 graduate Justin Engle will not be making the trip home from Oxford where he is a student at Miami University.
This year, the 19-year-old Miami Uni-
versity Marching Band member will be playing the tenor saxophone and actually marching in the holiday parade in New York City, as he and his band mates usher in Santa Claus.
From their family and extra buttery popcorn to Wii games, a group of elementary students shared what they are most thankful for this holiday season.
With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, students at Wapakoneta Elementary School shared their Thanksgiving plans and for what they are most thankful.
Ten-year-old David Sharp recounted that during his music class, all of the classmates went around the room and shared what they were thankful for this year.
âI said I was thankful for
extra buttery popcorn,â Sharp said.

A six-year veteran of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was selected as the 2011 âTrooper of the Yearâ at the Wapakoneta Post.
Joshua J. Carter was selected for the honor in recognition of his outstanding service throughout the year, Wapakoneta Post Commander Lt. Scott Carrico said.
Fellow troopers and supervisors assigned to the post chose Carter based on his leadership abilities, professional ethics, courteous treatment of others, and enthusiastic work attitude, along with his cooperation with supervisors, peers and the public.
A line item in a supplemental appropriation drew the attention of two Wapakoneta City Council members and the cityâs administration.
To balance the Wapakoneta City Recreation Departmentâs budget for the end of the year, a shift of $7,000 from the Wapakoneta WaterPark Fund to the cityâs Recreation Fund had to be made to cover outstanding expenses.
While the transfer is necessary this year, Mayor Rodney Metz said he does not want this to happen again in the future.
