After 10 laps back and forth the length of the Wapakoneta Family YMCA pool, two Wapakoneta High School students decided to scuttle their boat.
Freshman Jarrett Koch and sophomore Keaton Metz had traversed the pool one more length than their nearest competitor, freshman Judy Schaub and sophomore Dakota Stammen, whose cardboard started to deteriorate from being in the water.
Soon after the tornados tore through Oklahoma earlier this week, Freedom Train owner Gary Katterheinrich had a hard time getting to sleep.
“After not getting any sleep, Katterheinrich said. “I told my wife (Sylvia) that we had to do something.”
Katterheinrich and his wife came up with a good plan.

A love of art that started when he was just a boy, is translating into a future career for one Wapakoneta High School senior.
“When I was little, I loved to draw,” Ross Kohler said.
It wasn’t until his junior year of high school that Kohler could fit art classes back into his schedule, but when he could, he took as many art classes as possible.

Marcille A. Sailor, 86, of Jackson Center, died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Miami Valley Medical Center, in Dayton.
She was born Nov. 3, 1926, in Shelby County, the daughter of Matilda Kempfer and George F. Wildermuth, who preceded her in death.

Auglaize County Courthouse renovations earned a recognition Thursday with a state award as the “Best Public Project†for 2013.
During a ceremony in Columbus, Heritage Ohio, a statewide, non-profit preservation organization, recognized not only the Auglaize County commissioners, but architects Garmann-Miller & Associates, general contractor Peterson Construction, plumbers JMC Mechanical, Koester Electric, structural engineers Shell & Meyer Associates, and HVAC contractor Perfection Group, for their work in preserving the building built in 1894.
For one night, Wapakoneta High School scholars took center stage during a awards night at the Wapakoneta Performing Arts Center.
