Ruth L. Musser, 86

June 23, 2014

Ruth L. Musser, 86, of Jackson Center, passed away Friday evening, June 20, 2014, at Auglaize Acres in Wapakoneta. She was born in Lakeview, Ohio on Oct. 13, 1927, to the late Paul L. and Minnie A. (Quedeweit) McGee. She married Malcolm E. “Pete” Musser on Dec. 16, 1950, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 1979. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Stephen Musser, and a sister, Irene Smith.

21 apply for top county position

Auglaize County Commissioners have begun interviewing applicants for a new county administrator and released the applicant list to the Wapakoneta Daily News on Friday evening. The commissioners hope to hire someone within the next few weeks.

The position has been vacant for nearly five months after former administrator Mike Hensley resigned without notice on Jan. 14. Hensley occupied this position for nearly two years.

Girls end week at Mount Union

Five young women entering their senior year of high school were invited to attend this year’s American Legion Auxiliary Buckeye Girls State (BGS) program held at the University of Mount Union in Alliance, Ohio.

Wapakoneta High School students Kaitlin Hughes, Julia Pepple, Jenna Sawmiller, Beth Severt and Megan Watt, were recognized by the school administration to participate as delegates in the 2014 week-long program.

The girls have been at BGS since last Sunday and will be returning home today.

Boys honed their skills

While many students have taken a break from education during their first full week of summer vacation, five young men entering their senior year at Wapakoneta High School spent last week learning about city, county and state government at the American Legion Buckeye Boys State program at Bowling Green State University.

Woman robbed in bank lot

ST. MARYS — Law enforcement officials in St. Marys are looking for a suspect who held a woman up at knife point and stole a car at a local bank.

At approximately 12:21 p.m. Friday, employees from 3Rivers Federal Credit Union on Greenville Road called the St. Marys Police Department to report the incident. St. Mary Police Chief Mark Ernst said a white male approached a woman in the parking lot, displayed a knife, stole her purse and car and fled the scene.

Budget takes toll on roadway work

It’s come down to two miles.

The harsh winter, the cost of materials and reduced revenue has resulted in the county — out of 350 miles of roadway — only being able to resurface two miles with hotmix this year.

Bringing history to life

As people gathered at the Bowsher Log Cabin at 507 East Main St., Cridersville, they were treated with the opportunity to churn and taste their own butter.

From 5-7 p.m. at the cabin the Johnny Appleseed Park was on hand in association with the Cridersville Historical Society, Cridersville Fire Department and Cridersville Healthcare Center to bring people back in time for the first Rally Around the Cabin, Pioneer Days for the summer.

Grads learn VALU

Students in the Visioning Auglaize Leadership and Unity (VALU), a class which focuses on spreading knowledge on the businesses and organizations throughout Auglaize County, graduated Thursday with a better understanding of their community.

VALU is co-sponsored by Wapakoneta Area Chamber of Commerce, St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce and Southwest Auglaize County Chamber of Commerce.

Adult leaders from the surrounding areas came together every month from September to June for a comprehensive look of the county.

Robert F. “Bob” George, 93

June 19, 2014

Robert F. “Bob” George, 93, of Botkins, died at 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima. He was born Dec. 28, 1920, in Auglaize County, the son of Frank and Mary (Veit) George, who preceded him in death. On June 8, 1946, he married Evelyn A. Wieging, and she survives.

Joseph F. Voisin, 71

June 19, 2014

Joseph F. Voisin, 71, of 2100 Celina Road in St. Marys, died at 8:08 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at his residence. He was born Dec. 31, 1942, in Mt. Pleasant, Mich., to Joseph and Fetta Grace (Martin) Voisin. On Sept. 5, 1989, in Sevierville, Tenn., he married Lana Jean Minkner-Zeigler, who survives.
