Title changes: Clerk of Courts requests renovations to title office

With costs unknown, the Auglaize County commissioners plan to work with the Auglaize County Clerk of Courts to renovate the county title office.

“I don’t know how much this would cost,” Auglaize County Clerk of Courts Jean Meckstroth said Thursday as she presented a list of 10 specific items she’d like to see updated in the office.

Commissioners planned to do a walk-through of the county office, located in a complex in the 600 block of South Blackhoof Street, before approving any plans.

1st Ward civics lessons

A group of Wapakoneta High School students talked with a local legislator to learn more about government from the ground up.

Thirteen members of Teen Green, a group formed by the city Tree Commission for planting trees, gathered Thursday in council chambers of the Wapakoneta City Administration Building to listen to a presentation from 1st Ward Council Jim Neumeier about his responsibilities as a representative of the people.

Online auctions successful

Auglaize County has successfully gotten rid of a wide array of surplus items online, especially as renovations have been made to the courthouse.

“It’s been a wonderful tool for us,” Commissioner Doug Spencer said. “We’ve gotten a lot of hits.”

Spencer noted items continue to draw attentlon on the county’s website located at auglaizecounty.org and then by clicking on an online auctions icon.

The site is operated by Lightgov.com, but maintained locally by the county administrator.

Commissioners plan to move more to improvement fund

The Auglaize County commissioners plan to put more per month into the permanent improvement fund during the first part of the year to ensure renovations at the Auglaize County Courthouse are paid.

This week the commissioners authorized the Auglaize County treasurer to place $80,000 per month of receipts from the county’s permissive sales and use tax collected into the permanent improvement fund, beginning in January and extending through the end of June, or until the board adopts a resolution altering the amount.

C’ville to review parking

CRIDERSVILLE — Emergency vehicles experiencing trouble passing parked cars on a section of a village street is causing concern for village officials.

Cridersville Village Council members discussed the issue this week after listening to a report on the matter from Streets Committee members, who advised eliminating parking throughout the section of the street. When one councilor offered a new resolution to the issue, the matter was sent back to committee.

Botkins starts scholarships, flip-flops bus stops

BOTKINS — Botkins Local Schools Board of Education members elected to accept a $3,960 donation to start a scholarship in memory of a former school district employee.

Becky Grillot, who worked for the district as a librarian and media specialist, also worked as a secretary for the district. She fought cancer for a year before finally losing her battle with the disease Oct. 5 of last year. The money came from contributions in memory of Grillot at services held in Botkins Oct. 10.

Joyce E. Camper, 79, of Wapakoneta, died at 1:02 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

Donald Ickes, 53

January 11, 2012

Donald William Ickes, Sr., 53, 1122 Hager St., St. Marys, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St.Marys.
He was born Oct. 2, 1958, in Lima, the son of Helen Smart and John Phillip Ickes.
Surviving are his mother, Helen (Dale) Carlson, of Wapakoneta, three sons, Donald W. (Erica) Ickes, of Washington Crossing, Pa., Matthew Ickes, of St.Marys, and Brandon Ickes, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two daughters, Heather L. (Chad) Gibbs, of Williamsburg, Va., and Saleasha M. (Scott) Krogman, of Celina.

Roy Kohler, 86

Roy M. Kohler, 86, of Wapakoneta, died at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at The Living Center in St. Marys.
He was born July 10, 1925, in St. Marys, the son of Maud (Coldwell) and Andrew Kohler, who preceded him in death. On July 17, 1948, he married Stella V. Gross, and she survives.
Also surviving are two brothers, Bob Kohler, of St. Marys, and Chuck (Beth) Kohler, of Wapakoneta; two sisters, Betty Weaver, of St. Marys, and Barb (Wilbur) Brubaker, of St. Marys; and several nieces and nephews.

Dennis Chesbrough, 68

Dennis L. “Denny” Chesbrough, 68, of Wapakoneta, died at 3 p.m. Monday Jan. 9, 2012, at Celina Manor.
He was born Feb. 5, 1943, in Lima, the son of Laurene (McCormick) and Elwood Chesbrough, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are a half-sister, Barbara (Al) Tester, of Wapakoneta, and two nephews.
Denny worked at Cheryl Ann Workshop, Celina, and the Auglaize Workshop, New Bremen.
Private family graveside services will at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wapakoneta. There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are being handled by the Bayliff &Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta.
