Starting in 2014, Ohio school districts are to be use new state tests of common core curriculum.
The new tests are to be implemented in 45 states and the District of Columbia, but they come with a catch, they must be taken online, replacing the traditional paper and pencil standardized tests Ohio students have been taking.
Patricia R. ‚ÄúPat‚ÄĚ Wagner, 80, of Wapakoneta, died at 4:53 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at St. Rita‚Äôs Medical Center in Lima, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Dec. 6. 1930, in Hancock County, the daughter of Treva (Pheneger) and Arthur ‚ÄúEd‚ÄĚ DeLong, who preceded her in death. On July 23, 1950, she married Russell M. ‚ÄúShorty‚ÄĚ Wagner, and he died May 16, 1990.
Franklin R. Rostorfer, 76, of rural Wapakoneta, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 30, 2011, from injuries sustained in an auto accident on Ohio 235, in Logan County.
He was born Aug. 8, 1935, in Clay Township, Auglaize County, the son of Margaret (Cook) and Clifford Rostorfer, who preceded him in death. On March 3, 1962, he married Judy A. Metz, and she survives.
LEWISTOWN ‚ÄĒ It will be pretty hard for first-year varsity coach Don Mack and the Botkins Trojans girls basketball team not to improve on last year‚Äôs season.
Playing with a new found spark, the Trojans got off to their first 2-0 start in many years with a 47-34 road win over Indian Lake on Tuesday.
FINDLAY ‚ÄĒ The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity boys and girls swim teams opened their seasons with losses in the season-opening meet Tuesday night at Findlay.
Taylor Law posted three wins for the Redskins girls team in a 108-75 loss to the Trojans.
The Wapak boys suffered a 127-52 defeat.
Law won in the 200 IM, 500 freestyle and the 400 free relay.
Joining Law in the 400 free relay were Josie Miller, Stephanie Kessen and Haley Buchanan. The foursome also finished second in the 200 medley relay.
Miller won the 100 freestyle and took second in the 200 IM.

Extending a middle class tax break would put more than $1,000 in the average American family‚Äôs pockets for the next year and should help to continue to fuel a U.S. economic recovery, a U.S. Congressman says. The proposed legislation also would help small business owners with payroll taxes.
The biggest battle in Congress will be offsetting the cuts by raising taxes on those making more than $1 million per year. The act would tax income in excess of $1 million by an additional 3.25 percent.
An international renewable energy company is considering Auglaize County as a site for a wind farm.
U.S. Mainstream Renewable Power Inc. has completed preliminary studies for a proposed 100-megawatt project in portions of Duchouquet, Logan and Moulton townships, said Greg Myers, president of the Wapakoneta Area Economic Development Council.
‚ÄúThe company plans to continue to conduct in depth analysis throughout 2012 to further determine the wind speeds and the overall feasibility for the development of a wind generation project,‚ÄĚ Myers said.

He said with the carpet and adhesive in several rooms, including the music room, office and library, the smell seems to have disappeared.
