ST. HENRY — Minster starting pitcher Austin Knapke had no tomorrow in the best-of-three series to decide a district ACME champion.
Knapke’s pitching and some timely hits have Minster in prime position for a state berth.
Ryan Hoying hit a two-run home run and Knapke frustrated Cavalier batters for six innings in the Wildcats’ 3-1 win over Coldwater in the first game of the ACME district championship series on Thursday night.
Knapke, along younger brother Andrew who started at second base on Thursday, are unavailable for tonight’s action because of a family wedding.

Hazel M. Goodwin, 89, 1103 Indiana Avenue, St. Marys, died at 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at her son’s residence in Elida.
She was born Nove. 22, 1921, in Montezuma, the daughter of Mary (Peggs) and Wilbur Ritchie. On Aug. 1, 1942, she married Forrest “Red” Goodwin and he preceded her in death.
She is survived by a son, Jerry (Mary) Goodwin, of Elida; and a daughter, Kelli Burch, of St. Marys.
She was preceded in death by a son, Forrest Goodwin,Jr.
Robert (Bob) Hageman, 66, died of respiratory failure at 11 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2011, at Banner Good Samaritan Health Center near Phoenix, Ariz. He had been in failing health for several years.
He was born Feb. 15, 1945, in Sidney, the son of Mary and Henry Henry Hageman.
Ronny Lee Stienecker, 59, 506 Oil St., St. Marys, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 10, 1951, in Celina, the son of Marjorie (Schmehl) and Virgil Stienecker. They survive in Saint Marys.
Also surviving is a son, Jason (Becky) Stienecker ,of Wapakoneta.
Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home in St. Marys. Private family burial rites will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be given to Zion Lutheran Church.
Alan F. “Fritz” Kah 84, of Wapakoneta, died at 3:53 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born March 25, 1927, in Wapakoneta, to Ethel (Phenning) and Adrian C. Kah, who preceded him death. On Oct. 7, 1950 he married H. Yvonne Littman, who survives in Wapakoneta.
He is also survived by two sons, Steven (Mary) Kah and Eric (Pam) Kah; a daughter, Ellen (Ken) Nord; two grandchildren, Jenny Gutierrez and Linda (John) Meyer; and two sisters, Marcia Hays and Kathryn Dunnavant.
More than $110,800 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) formula funding is to be used to make improvements to storm sewers and for asphalt resurfacing at Auglaize Acres.
Auglaize County Administrator Joe Lenhart said Wednesday that more than $22,000 of the funding is to be used for storm sewer improvements at the county nursing home on Infirmary Road.
A mandatory contractor walk-thru is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the site. Work is to be completed by Sept. 1. Bids for the project must be received by 11 a.m. July 26.
Wapakoneta union workers and city administrators recently reached a three-year contract agreement, which became official earlier this week with the adoption of an ordinance by Wapakoneta City Council.
The contract with the Utility Workers Union of America Local 565 provides wage increases of 1.5 percent for each of the next two years and a 2 percent increase in the third and final year. The contract covers approximately 50 workers with the Public Works, Refuse and Recycling, Water and Wastewater departments as well as some office staff at the Wapakoneta City Administration Building.
A Wapakoneta High School student showed off her temporary tattoo-drawing skills, talked about the confidence needed to make the move to a small community and answered a question about parental influence.
Wapakoneta High School senior Janki Patel, 16, the daughter of Renuka and Prakash Patel, earned the honor of being Miss Summer Moon Festival Queen following the pagaent held Wednesday.
Patel said her her speech on confidence symbolized her journey during her first pagaent.
COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio State’s players say they are resigned to make the best of the school’s self-imposed penalties, no matter how hurt or angry some may feel.
“There’s nothing we can really do about that,” offensive lineman J.B. Shugarts said after a conditioning workout this week. “The university decided to make that call. We’ve got to accept it.”

ST. HENRY — For four innings Tuesday night, Wapakoneta pitcher Brandon Miller was virtually flawless.
Unfortunately for Wapak, Minster ended that in a big way in the fifth inning.
Minster pounded out five straight hits to erase a 2-0 deficit and pull out a 3-2 win in the ACME baseball Auglaize County district final at the Wally Post Athletic Complex in St. Henry.
Wapak ended its season with a 20-4 record.
Miller had held Minster to just one hit and one walk through the first four innings.
But Minster had him figured out in the fifth.
