Jerry Wenning, 74, of Van Wert, went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Leesburg Regional Medical Center in Leesburg, Fla.
He was born in Wapakoneta, the son of the late June (Pfenning) and William âBillâ Wenning, who preceded him in death. In Wapakoneta, he married Alice (Oen) Wenning, who survives him in Van Wert.
Telephone Service Co. (TSC) and Middle Point Home Telephone Co. (MPH) officials announced a merger Monday as TSC purchased the stock of the Van Wert-based telephone company.
TSC acquired the company and will pay MPH shareholders cash for their shares. The deal is subject to customary terms and conditions and is expected to be finalized in the first quarter of 2013.
Matching skills and experience of Wapakoneta City Council members to the issues facing the city, the council president made minor adjustments to his committee assignments for 2013.
Wapakoneta Council President Steve Henderson, who typically does not change assignments in the middle of his term, announced he will have Councilor-at-large Tom Finkelmeier Jr. chair the Utilities Committee and appointed new Councilor-at-large Randy Fisher as chair of the Health and Safety Committee.
UNIOPOLIS — Uniopolis Village Council President Greg Ritchie will officially serve as acting mayor, and village councilors collectively selected Dave Kohlreiser to serve as the new council president during Monday’s council meeting.
However, the council seat left vacant by Ritchie’s move to the new position will be left open to save money.
Nyoka Polly Goble, 64, of Wapakoneta died at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at St. Ritasâs Medical Center in Lima.
She was born Aug. 14, 1948, in Shrewsbury, W.V., to Ada Esta (Craigo) and Howard Sims, who preceded her in death. On June 15, 1986, she married Wyman L. Goble, and he survives in Wapakoneta.
Edith V. âEdieâ Jeanneret, 90, of Wapakoneta, died at 10:14 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the Lima Memorial Hospital emergency room.
She was born Dec. 11, 1922, in Elida, to Mathilda Miller and Cecil Keeling. On March 11, 1943, she married Reneâ Jeanneret Sr., and he preceded her in death Nov. 23, 1977.
M. Philena Braun, 81, of rural Wapakoneta, died at noon, Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 18, 1931, in Auglaize County, the daughter of Lylah (Hover) and Carl Minnich, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 28, 1951, she married Irvin V. âRedâ Braun, and he died March 6, 2003.
From the time this Wapakoneta area native sought an elected position to represent his sixth grade class, he knew he wanted to serve others in political office.
Starting later today, Randy Fisher will get his chance on a larger scale as he becomes the newest member of Wapakoneta City Council.
Local seventh-graders recently took the top spots in a challenge that helped them build skills for the future.
Joan Wade’s seventh-grade math class at Wapakoneta Middle School split into five teams, and three of the teams took the top three spots in the Ohio Stock Market Challenge, a regional program offered through Wright State University.
“This is a good learning tool,” Wade said of the program. “The kids really got into it.”
A Wapakoneta man came in with a plan and with that plan he left with more than $200 in groceries and helped raise money for the Wapakoneta Kids Wrestling program.
Joe Metzger bought two tickets in a December fundraiser to help out the Wapakoneta Kids Wrestling program and won the chance to hit the aisles Saturday morning at Community Markets.
“I liked it,” Metzger said after his grocery dash. “I haven’t moved that fast in years.”
With the starting countdown winding down, Metzger decided to adhere to his pre-set plan.
