Wanda L. “Jean” Drees, 90, of St. Marys, died at 5:06 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
She was born Aug. 14, 1921, in Washington Township, Auglaize County, the daughter of Pearl (Fryer) and Harve Russell, who preceded her in death. In 1939, she married Clarence “Shorty” Meyers, and he died Aug. 25, 1975. On Dec. 29, 1990, she married Henry B. Drees, and he survives in St. Marys.
Linda M. White, 45, of Cridersville died at 12:19 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 11 at St. Rita’s Medical Center.
She was born June 4, 1966 in Bellefontaine, to Edna M. (Branham) and Dennis L. Faulder, and they survive in Jackson Center.
She married Randy White on June 4, 1982, and he survives in Cridersville.
Sylvan J. “Jake” Paul, age 88, of 18950 Kettlersville Road, New Knoxville, Ohio, passed away Sept. 11, 2011 at 9:37 p.m. at the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys, Ohio.
He was born on March 19, 1923, in Botkins, the son of the late Thelma (Zimpfer) and Edison Paul. On Aug. 11, 1951, he married Betty Snapp, who survives.
Jake is also survived by his son, Ron Paul of Botkins; a daughter, Renee (Jim) McGriff, of Milford; a brother; Don Paul, of Orange County, Calif., and a sister, Carol Singelton, of Wapakoneta.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Ned “Bud” Gaylord Burden III, 21, died at 8:25 p.m., Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family after a valiant battle with cancer.
He was born Dec. 9, 1989, in Bellefontaine, to Christina (Webb) and Ned Burden II. His father and stepmother Machelle survive in Sidney and his mother survives in Lakeview.
Debra “Deb” Boday, 53, died at 1:45 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at Lima Memorial Hospital.
She was born Feb. 11, 1958, the daughter of Ann (Dulebohn) and Dale Miller. Her father and stepmother, Beth, survive in Wapakoneta, and she was preceded in death by her mother. On Sept. 16, 1978, in Lima, she married James “Jim” Boday, and he survives in Waynesfield.
Thanks to a 3-0 start, the Wapakoneta Redskins are ranked No. 13 in the first Associated Press state high school football poll released Monday evening.
Wapak is coming off back-to-back Western Buckeye League wins. The Redskins held off Bath 14-13 in Week 3 and defeated Elida, a 2010 playoff team, 29-18 in Week 2.
They routed Bellefontaine 48-0 in the season opener.
The WBL is well represented in the poll. In addition to Wapak in Division II, Kenton is ranked third and Ottawa-Glandorf eighth in Division IV.
A miscue on a scorecard hurt the Wapakoneta Redskins but not enough to cost them the win.
Wapak pulled out a 183-185 win over the rival St. Marys Roughriders in a Western Buckeye League varsity boys golf dual match on Monday at Wapakoneta Country Club.
“It wasn’t the greatest score but a win is a win,” Wapak coach Ken Wayman said.
Freshman Drew Wayman was disqualified after signing a scorecard that contained an incorrect score on one of the holes.
A new man is in charge of the Wapakoneta Electric Department and he hopes to be a positive influence.
Wapakoneta Mayor Rodney Metz announced Monday longtime employee Donnie Schnarre as the new Electric Department superintendent, replacing Bill Lambert, who retired Aug. 31 after 32 years with the department. The mayor made the announcement during Monday’s Wapakoneta City Council meeting.
WAYNESFIELD — Waynesfield-Goshen Board of Education members opened Monday’s school board meeting with a moment of silence in honor of a school employee.
Deb Boday, who had been employed with the school district for 26 years as a bus driver, died early Monday morning at Lima Memorial Health System.
Board members collectively agreed that their hearts went out to Boday’s family.
“She was very involved with the community and the school,” Superintendent Joanne Kerekes said. “She will be missed.”
Wapakoneta city leaders learned Monday a city street project set for 2013 received an additional $560,000 to enhance the roadway’s look and appeal.
Wapakoneta Safety-Service Director Bill Rains told Wapakoneta City Council members the city received a $559,680 Transportation Enhancement Grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) for a streetscape project. This is the second grant the city has received from ODOT for the project. They earlier received a $1.34 million for the estimated $2.5 million street reconstruction project.
