Alleged threat prompts rumors, minor concern at school

Wapakoneta Police Department officers are investigating a call reporting a a threatening comment made by a 15-year-old student to another student while being transported home Wednesday on a school bus.

A call came in at 4:10 p.m. reporting the student had harassed another student According to the report, High School Principal Aaron Rex had already made contact with the student and his parents and had addressed the situation.

Legislators want all on same page

Needing a universal interpretation of one clause in a proposed amendment to the city curfew law is desired before a Wapakoneta City Council committee will place its stamp of approval on the necessary changes.

Wapakoneta Councilor-at-large Tom Finkelmeier Jr. and his committee members, 2nd Ward Councilor Dan Lee and Councilor-at-large Steve Walter, want the city administrators, police officers and the juveniles judges to interpret “having care and custody” of a non-adult to have the same meaning to each of the respective parties.

Students learn about safety, health of activity

A midday rain Wednesday did not stop local student from learning valuable lessons during the International Walk to School Day — which are keeping safe and staying healthy.

The Wapakoneta Middle School students participated in a International Walk to School Day in the gymnasium on Wednesday afternoon. The students were supposed to take a lap around Harmon Field, but the rain moved them inside. Despite the move, the students still listened to an array of speakers.

Barbara Norton, 58

Barbara Lee (Boehringer) Norton, 58, of Wapakoneta, died at 4:40 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at St Rita’s Hospital in Lima.
She was born April 23, 1954, to Wilma (Riffle) and Paul Boehringer, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Amy Norton (Lukas Lehmann), of the Isle of Gigha, Scotland, and Jamie (William) Goudy, of Wapakoneta; a granddaughter, Kieran Goudy; three brothers, Joseph Boehringer, of Elbert, Colo., Robert Boehringer, of Garden City, Kan., and Timothy Boehringer, of Greenville; and three nephews, James, Ryan, and Devin.

Acheson advances to districts, Redskin season over

BOWLING GREEN — The season ended for all but one Redskin golfer Tuesday morning, as senior Caleb Acheson qualified for districts as an individual.

The Wapakoneta Redskins traveled to Bowling Green and played Stone Ridge golf course in the 2012 Division I Sectional Golf Tournament Tuesday.  

Redskins win 5 set thriller over St. Marys

“Come on! Who’s going to step it up?”

Those were the audible screams from Wapakoneta’s senior libero Amber Dickerson while her team was up against the wall in the fourth set against St. Marys Tuesday night.

Wapakoneta was trailing in sets 2-1 and in points in the fourth set, 15-11. Things were looking bleak for the Redskins.

Election primer

Several candidates explained their stances Tuesday on local and state issues for the upcoming election at a Meet the Candidates Luncheon hosted by the Wapakoneta Area Chamber of Commerce.

Ohio Board of Education District 1 candidate Ann Jacobs and Ohio 82nd District state representative candidates, Pete Schlegel and Tony Burkley, made abbreviated remarks about their plans if they are elected and their qualifications for the posts.

Two local officials also addressed issues area residents will have the opportunity to vote on.

Board trims expenses to meet income

BOTKINS — Botkins Board of Education members reviewed a detailed list of materials for building the new school and items and furnishings that will be housed in the building.

The report was detailed to the point of listing every staple, screw and other materials that will be used and their cost to the school district.

Botkins Board of Education President Jack Koenig  called for Tuesday’s special board meeting to for a detailed review of the list as the deadline for specifications approaches.

Dracula fright

The Redskins were served a straight-set loss by the Anna Rockets Monday, but things weren’t always so bleak.

Wapakoneta was up by double digit points in the first set, looking to put it away when something happened.

Something clicked for Anna, whether it be a strategy change of an attitude adjustment, Anna stormed back in that first set and never looked back.
