Donald Ruble, 71

February 15, 2013

Donald Eugene Ruble, 71, of Belle Center, passed away at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Heartland of Bellefontaine.
He was born Jan. 27, 1942, in Belle Center, the son of the late Geraldine (Royer) and Alpha Ruble. On Dec. 31, 1960, he married the former Essie F. Butler, and she survives.

Redskins have offensive explosion to beat Shawnee

The Wapakoneta Redskins used the trifecta to create some early distance from the Shawnee Indians, but they could not shake their Western Buckeye League neighbor because they, too, were hitting bombs.

Both teams combined for 19 3-pointers in the contest with Wapak hitting 10, led by junior guard Sara Warner with four but nearly the whole team got involved. Shawnee snapped the twine nine times with two girls each hitting three.

Recommendations for Tdap vaccine change

The recommended administration of a vaccine, which protects against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis, has changed for 2013.

Auglaize County Health Department Nursing Supervisor Cindy Jones said the new recommendations for when Tdap should be administered is a “big change.”

The changes include a recommendation that the vaccine be administered to pregnant women during each pregnancy between 27 and 36 weeks gestation, regardless of the number of years it has been since the expectant mother last received the vaccine.

Income tax moves closer

BUCKLAND — Buckland Village Council members heard the second reading Thursday of an ordinance to institute a 1 percent income tax on village residents.

Councilors began looking into the possibility of instituting the 1 percent income tax in November after voters defeated a 2.6-mill property tax levy on the November general election ballot. The levy was expected to generate approximately $20,000 annually.

The income tax ordinance will provide zero tax credit for people working in Buckland and living out of town.

Organizers plan 2013 Relay for Life

With the end of February nearing, local organizers have already started thinking summer, as they have an annual event on their minds.

The 16th annual Auglaize County Relay for Life is slated for June 21 and 22, and a theme, committees and teams are forming.

“It takes a while to plan,” Auglaize County Relay for Life Staff Partner Sarah Burke said. “We usually take a month off after Relay and then start talking next year’s Relay.”

Jack L. Cramer 77, of Wapakoneta, died at 10:45 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born April 2, 1935, in St. Marys, to Helen (Taylor) and Oscar Cramer Sr., who preceded him in death.

Joseph Pickering, 86

Joseph William “Joe” Pickering, 86, of Wapakoneta, died at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Lima Memorial Health System.
He was born July 27, 1926, in West Alexandria, the son of Eva G. (Roach) and Karl V. Pickering, who preceded him in death. On Aug. 20, 1949, he married Joan O. Hodges, and she died Feb. 7, 2000.

Faris Earl, 85

Faris L. “Fuzzy” Earl, 85, of Waynesfield, died at 2:50 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at his residence.
Faris was born Oct. 11, 1927, in Waynesfield, to Clarice Vane (Focht) and Victor Vernon Earl, and they preceded him in death. On July 17, 1948, in Nuremberg, Germany, he married Zita Vogl. and she survives in Waynesfield.
Also surviving are three daughters, Barbara Earl, of Waynesfield, Elaine (Ted) Bear, of Elida, and Nancy (Ron) Wildermuth, of Ada; a brother, M. Kenneth Earl, of Wapakoneta; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
