Chili Day: ‘Tasty’

February 22, 2013

Standing in front of a vat of chili, Sertoma member Denny Kemper continues to stir what is the last batch for the day as the clock ticks toward the end of the Sertoma Chili Day on Thursday.

“We went with a couple of extra batches right off the bat and it is paying off,” Kemper said, explaining the group made approximately 140 gallons of chili this year. “It is going fast this year. We used to have to mix a couple of batches at the last minute, but I think we will be just right this year. We are right on target with what we served last year.”

Drivers failure to yield

February 22, 2013

Motorists running stop signs and failing to yield the right of way to other traffic on the road are causing too many crashes, state law enforcement officials say.

Failure-to-yield violations were the second-highest cause of fatal crashes throughout Ohio in 2012, according to statistics from the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP). Locally, a motorist’s failure to yield the right of way led to one of Auglaize County’s six fatalities in 2012. The mishap occurred at the intersection of Ohio 117 and Fairmount Road.

“Ohio is one of only 10 states that has assessment of local income tax on individuals,” Navin said. “It is the only state that permits municipalities to create their own definitions, rules and regulations for municipal taxes.
