Mary Howe, 92

January 22, 2013

Mary Kathryn Howe, 92, of Wapakoneta, died at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Cridersville Healthcare Center.
She was born Feb. 23, 1920, in Wapakoneta, the daughter of Marie (Emerick) and Clarence Weber. On March 1, 1944, she married Frederick W. Howe, and he died Jan. 15, 2013.
Surviving are a daughter, Ann (Michael) Loy, of Botkins; a son, Dan Howe, of Wapakoneta; a grandson, Ryan (Krystal) Loy, of Wapakoneta; and two great –grandchildren, Madison Loy, of Wapakoneta, and Noah Loy, of Wapakoneta.

Senior plan OK’d

Residents from a Wapakoneta subdivision greeted senior housing developers from Columbus with concerns regarding water running off the property and trees being cut down.

John Stock and Walt Whitmyer, developers of the proposed senior housing project, approached Wapakoneta City Council members during their meeting Monday seeking a resolution of support to gain points in an application process with the Ohio Housing Finance Agency.

Study to impact airport funding

A statewide survey could impact how funding is dispersed to airports throughout Ohio.

The Ohio Airports Focus Study, being conducted by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), is expected to help ODOT and the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) make “informed decisions” for Ohio’s 97 publicly-owned general aviation airports.

The study, which began in the fall, is being used to optimize investment in Ohio’s airport system with an eye toward safety, efficiency and economic growth, according to ODOT.

C’ville council talks 2013

CRIDERSVILLE — As an area village begins a new year, they enacted some changes along with addressing a few housekeeping items for the 2013 year.

Cridersville Village Council members met on Monday for their rescheduled regular meeting, and Council President Eric West lead the meeting, as Mayor Lorali Myers was absent, due to her being out while recovering from an illness.

Councilors voted to reappoint Choice One Engineering as their village engineer. Choice One has been working with the village for several years.

Botkins girls crushed by Russia

RUSSIA —  The Botkins girls basketball team was coming off a  strong performance Saturday night at Ridgemont, with a lot of confidence heading into a key Shelby County League game, but the confidence didn’t carry over Monday night against the Russia Raiders.  

The Trojans fell hard 46-20 to the Raiders.  

Varsity coach Don Mack was stunned by the performance.

School delay

Wapakoneta City Schools and Waynesfield-Goshen Local Schools are on a two-hour delay due to the frigid cold temperatures. Remember to bundle up children and youth for the bus stop as temperatures are in singled digits and windchills are below zero.

What is the best clothing for cold weather?
Adults and children should wear:
• a hat
• a scarf or knit mask to cover face and mouth
• sleeves that are snug at the wrist
• mittens (they are warmer than gloves)
• water-resistant coat and shoes
• several layers of loose-fitting clothing

Mary Kathryn Howe, 92, of Wapakoneta, died at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Cridersville Healthcare Center.
Arrangements are incomplete at Bayliff and Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta.

John Lachey, 79

January 21, 2013

John D. Lachey, 79, 321 S. Wagner Ave., Sidney, passed away at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Nov. 6, 1933, in Fort Loramie, the son of the late Katherine (Borchers) and Marcellus Lachey. On June 2, 1956, he married Marjorie Ballweg, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Bev (Don)Goettemoeller, of Sidney; and a son, Joe (Shannon) Lachey, of Sidney.
He was preceded in death by a son, John M. Lachey.

George Truesdale, 86

George D. Truesdale, 86, of Wapakoneta, died at 2:38 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home.
He was born Dec. 11, 1926, in Auglaize County, the son of the late Florence (Harps) and Roy Truesdale. On May 21, 1949, he married G. A. “Sue” Fiebelkorn, who survives in Wapakoneta.
Also surviving are two sons, Eric A. (Sandy) Truesdale, of Wapakoneta, and Todd A. Truesdale, of Watauga, Texas; a granddaughter, Acacia Truesdale; a brother, Roy (LaVon) Truesdale, of Cridersville; and a sister-in-law, Lilas Truesdale, of Texas.

Lucile Waldman, 95

Lucile H. Waldman, 95, of Wapakoneta, died at 1:35 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Heritage of Huntington, Ind.
She was born Sept. 27, 1917, in Wapakoneta, the daughter of Margaret M. (Sheipline) and Joseph R. Brown, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 1, 1936, she married John F. Waldman, and he died June 25, 1979. They lived their entire lives on Defiance Street in Wapakoneta.
