Redskins sweep dual, avenge loss to Bath

BATH TOWNSHIP — The Wapakoneta Redskins avenged one of their league losses from last season on Tuesday night, defeating the Bath Wildcats 44-25 in a Western Buckeye League dual match.

The Redskins also crushed the Celina Bulldogs, 63-6, in their other dual match Tuesday at Bath High School.

Last season Bath, along with Defiance, accounted for Wapakoneta’s two losses in WBL competition, which ultimately ended the Redskins’ streak of four straight league championships.

Wycuff bond changed in rape case

COLUMBUS — The bond for Charles Wycuff, the man accused of sexually abusing a minor, was modified by a visiting judge from the Ohio Supreme Court Tuesday during a hearing at the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas. 

VFW names teacher of the year

Pair to leave park board

Two key members of the Heritage Trails Park District will be stepping down in the near future, putting the current state of the park district in question moving forward.

During Tuesday’s monthly meeting, held at the Chamber of Commerce office in Wapakoneta, Executive Director Allison Brady announced that will resign from her position at the end of the year.

Botkins denies Waynesfield-Goshen comeback

BOTKINS — After playing to a 19-19 tie at halftime, the winner of Monday’s game would be decided by whichever team won the second half.

The Botkins Trojans used a strong third quarter to cushion themselves against the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers, and despite a nice comeback by W-G, the Trojans prevailed for a 37-33 win in a non-league varsity girls basketball game at Botkins High School.

The win ended a five-game losing streak for the Trojans (2-5), while W-G was coming off of its first win of the season.

Council seeks to wrap up year

Money matters and support for the Eastern Shawnee topped the list of topics at Monday’s meeting of the Wapakoneta City Council.

First-Ward Councilman and Chair of the Parks and Recreation Committee James Neumeier reported on the financial status of the parks fund.

Village OKs gas proposal

WAYNESFIELD — Members of Waynesfield Village Council passed an emergency ordinance Monday night to allow natural gas into the village, which could start as early as next winter.

Practice makes perfect for holiday concert

The sounds of holiday music once again filled the Wapakoneta Performing Arts Center on Monday night. Under the direction of Klayton Hilleary and Steve Wimmers, the middle school and high school bands performed their Christmas Concert.

Kicking off the middle school program at 6:30 p.m. was the fifth grade band. They performed “Hot Cross Buns,” “Good King Wenceslas,” “Jolly Old St. Nicholas” and “Jingle Bells.”

Three earn Eagle Scout honors

Three young men earned the highest honor bestowed by the Boy Scouts on Saturday in a ceremony at St. Paul United Church of Christ.

Cody Benny, Dan Reichenbach and Dillon “DJ” O’Neill became Eagle Scouts under the leadership of Wapakoneta Boy Scout Troop 14 Scoutmaster George Herman.
