Airport projects on track

NEW KNOXVILLE — The Auglaize County Airport Authority discussed plans for two major projects during a regular board meeting Tuesday night at the terminal building of the Neil Armstrong Airport.

Airport Manager Sean Stroh said airport officials are still in the planning stages for a crack-seal runway project set to begin in September 2014, and an airport terminal and storage facility expansion project that will be constructed beginning in 2016, with completion in 2017.

Village mulls brick options

BOTKINS — A representative from the Botkins Beautification Club addressed council at a regular meeting to discuss leaving the possibility open for more engraved bricks to be added to the Botkins Veterans Park in future years.

Council members discussed whether laying down sand, as opposed to asphalt, would be a better option in the park walkway, if they are wanting to replace blank bricks with engraved in the future.

Woodruff said once locals saw the work begin, the club started getting more orders for engraved bricks.

Deputies continue to probe death

Law enforcement officials are now investigating the death of an Auglaize County man as a homicide. The man was found dead in his home Monday afternoon.

Charles E. Hicks, 54, of Uniopolis, was found dead inside his home after deputies were dispatched to 2 S. Main St., Uniopolis, at 4:30 p.m. Monday for a welfare check. Hicks reportedly was not recently seen by coworkers and friends.

Police probe report of assault

An assault of a woman was reported at 11:36 p.m. on Friday, June 6, at Normandy Ridge Apartments.

Ryan Plaugher, of Normandy Ridge, contacted the Wapakoneta Police Department to report an assault of his fiancé.

According to the report, Kayla Milton, 20, of the residence, told police she was approached by unknown male subject while in the laundry room in building G of the apartment complex. 

Mayor raises concerns over solicitations

CRIDERSVILLE —  Mayor Lorali Myers shared her concerns about solicitors with council and present community members Monday evening at the June council meeting.

Myers shared that time to time Cridersville seems to have visitors in the community going door-to-door to solicit for something.

County seeks new administrator

Auglaize County Commissioners have begun accepting applications for a new county administrator and hope to hire someone within the next four to six weeks, Commissioner John Bergman said Monday.

The position has been vacant for nearly five months after former administrator Mike Hensley resigned without notice on Jan. 14. Hensley occupied this position for nearly two years.

Norman J. Gerstner, 84

June 10, 2014

Norman J. Gerstner, 84, of Wapakoneta, died at 11:23 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Shawnee Manor.

He was born on Jan. 16, 1930, to Joseph and Marie (Gehrlich) Gerstner, who preceded him in death.

In 1952, he married Mary “Kitty” Steinke and she survives in Wapakoneta.

Dorothy M. (Seitz) Koepke, 91

June 10, 2014

Dorothy M. (Seitz) Koepke, 91, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2014, at Mercy St. Charles Hospital in Oregon, Ohio. She was born in Wapakoneta on May 11, 1923, a daughter of Otto and Amanda (Keller) Seitz.

Connie S. Yahl, 67

Connie S. Yahl, 67, of 02764 Salem Noble Road, Saint Marys, died at 7:53 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2014, at her residence, following a brief illness.

She was  born Aug. 8, 1946, in Sidney, the daughter of Clifford and Mildred (Stiles) Elsass.

She married Joseph J. Yahl on June 17, 1967, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Saint Marys, and he survives at the residence.

Ross M. McCain, 62

June 9, 2014

Ross M. McCain, 62, of Lima, passed away at 1:41 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2014, at St. Rita's Medical Center. 

He was born Oct. 28, 1951, in Celina, to Nile and Jewell (Maynard) McCain. His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Lima.
