Anita M. Bosau, 72

March 21, 2014

Anita M. Bosau, 72, of Wapakoneta, died at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at her residence surrounded by her family. 

She was born on Dec. 25, 1941. in Baltimore, Md. to Arthur C. and Ethel M. (Friend) Hanft, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Laura (Michael) Heffner, of Wapakoneta, and Michele (John) Karch, of Celina; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two sisters, Linda (Terry) Liptak and Debbie (Richard) Sanko.

Singsation a sensation

For Wapakoneta High School seniors Wyatt Harrison and Austin Drake Singsation has been a large portion of their lives for the past four years.

As the only four-year participants in the show choir group, Harrison said he couldn’t ask for more from this year’s experience.

Longtime employee leaves Daily News

Since 1979, Nina Laney has been a fixture at the Wapakoneta Daily News. Today, she said goodbye to the only job she has ever known.

“I’m still going through the emotions of having to walk out that door today and then I’m done,” Laney said yesterday. “I’ve already started to get emotional. It’s going to be tough.”

In the 35 years that she has been at the paper, Laney has had a multitude of jobs.

VALU class takes look at industry

A few of the largest manufacturers in Auglaize County stole the spotlight at this month’s Visioning Auglaize Leadership and Unity (VALU), a class designed to enhance knowledge of the county for area leaders.

Members of the class got a glimpse inside plant facilities, and, while taking tours guided by specialists within each company, VALU members learned about the rich history of many of the businesses and their roots within the county.

James R. "Jim" Donart, 71

March 20, 2014

James R. "Jim" Donart, 71, of Albuquerque, N.M., went to be with the Lord Sunday, March 16, 2014. Jim was born in Lima, Ohio to Wilfred and Doris Donart.

He was a graduate of Bowling Green State University. Jim entered the U.S. Air Force, where he honorably served for 21 years. After retirement, he taught science for more than 20 years in the Rio Rancho Public Schools. Jim was a long-time member of Sagebrush Community Church where he served in multiple ministries. His greatest joys in life were God and family.

James R. Steining, 55

James R. Steining, 55, of Mountain Top, Pa., formerly of Wapakoneta, died at 1:15 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at his residence. He was born April 6, 1958, in Lima, the son of Henry B. and Jane F. (Kohler) Steining. His parents survive in Wapakoneta.

Auction to aid baby, family

A quarter auction benefiting a Wapakoneta family and baby with medical needs will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 23 at The Palazzo, 309 South Main St. in Botkins.

Baby Elizabeth Klopfenstein, who has a condition that will require surgery later this year, has endured countless complications and doctor visits. The auction is to help support her and her family’s needs.

W-G mulls armed personnel on site

At a parent advisory meeting Tuesday night, Waynesfield-Goshen Local Schools Superintendent Chris Pfister announced that the administration will be releasing a survey asking parents if they support having a well-trained employee carrying a firearm in the building during school hours.

The district has not yet written the survey, but Pfister said the questions would be structured to  provide parents and other community members with sufficient information to make a decision.

Mammography bus visits Miller’s

The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Insititute debuted their mobile mammography unit in May of 2009, which is also known as the James. The James Mobile Mammography Program is accredited by the American College of Radiology.

The mobile unit is the first in central Ohio to offer 100 percent digital X-ray capabilities, and travels to area businesses who want to offer mammography screenings to their employees over the age of 40.

Hardin Northern to join Northwest Central Conference

Hardin Northern High School in Dola will become a member of the Northwest Central Conference, NWCC Commissioner David May announced Wednesday night in an email.

“The NWCC is excited to have Hardin Northern join the league and is looking forward to a long term relationship,” May said in the email.

Hardin Northern’s athletic teams, the Polar Bears, will begin competing in the NWCC in all sports minus football starting with the 2014-15 school year.
