Lovett tosses 1-hitter in win over Sidney

Renee Lovett withstood gusty winds to put forth a strong pitching performance Tuesday, as the Wapakoneta Redskins senior tossed a one-hit shutout against the Sidney Yellow Jackets.

The Redskins came away with a 7-0 victory Tuesday in their home opener, a non-league varsity softball contest at Wapakoneta High School.

Lovett walked one and struck out seven. After walking the leadoff batter in the third inning, she retired 14 of the 15 hitters she faced. Lovett has now allowed just one earned run in 12 innings pitched this season.

Steve A. Rowe, 58

Steve A. Rowe, 58, of New Knoxville, died at 2:10 p.m., March 31, 2014, at the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, in St. Marys. He was born Oct. 22, 1955, the son of Thomas R. Rowe and Chessie (Webb) Bennett. His father is deceased and his mother survives in Beauford, S.C. On Sept. 30, 2008, he married Linda Shaner, who survives.

Armstrong plates may be sole survivors

The note from the publisher mentioned a man in Atlanta, Ga., who claimed to have historic printing plates about the moon landing, along with a request to check into it.

Dutifully, the editor made the call.

On the other end was Paul Harris, who said he may have front-page plates from the presses at the Wapakoneta Daily News from the dates that Apollo 11 took off, the Eagle landed on the moon and the crew returned to earth.

Robert "Bob" Joseph Jennings, 80

Robert "Bob" Joseph Jennings, 80, passed away on March 30, 2014, at 1 a.m. peacefully at his residence. Robert  was born on March 24, 1934, in Lima, to Raymond and Mary "Mayme" (Dahill) Jennings, who preceded him in death. On  June 29, 1957, he married Joan E.Kohler Jennings who survives in Lima.

Living her dream

For 15 years, Dawn Johns had the dream of opening up her own herb shop in her hometown of Wapakoneta.

Today if you walk by 105 E. Auglaize St., you will see that Johns is making her dream a reality.

Adrienne’s Herb Shoppe opened on February 28, specializing in organic vitamins, foods and supplements.

Organic means that the plants used to make the herbs and food she sells have not been sprayed with any chemicals, therefore, using the product may reduce your risk of getting cancer, Johns said.

Frederick D. “Fred” Egbert, 72

Frederick D. “Fred” Egbert, 72, of Wapakoneta, died at 8:15 a.m. on Monday, March 31, 2014, at his residence. He was born Feb. 25, 1942, in Findlay, the son of William D. and Mary (Shafer) Egbert, who preceded him in death. On April 15, 1977, he married LouAnn Bradford, and she survives.
