Tom Christian Schnell, 79

April 17, 2014

Tom Christian Schnell, of Fort Worth, Texas, much loved husband, father and grandfather (Opa), took Jesus' hand April 2, 2014. He was 79 years old.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2014, at Lighthouse Fellowship. Visitation was Sunday, April 6 from 4-6 p.m. at Lighthouse Fellowship. Inurnment took place at 3:15 p.m at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Lane B.

Lovina A. Madigan, 92

April 17, 2014

Lovina A. Madigan, 92, of Wapakoneta, died at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at the Wapakoneta Manor. She was born Jan. 13, 1922, in Hardin County, the daughter of Clifford and Margaret (Cook) Rostorfer, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 23, 1950, she married Raymond A. Madigan, and he survives.

Kennith Sheridan Mullins, 63

Kennith Sheridan Mullins, 63, of Wapakoneta, died at 11:27 a.m., Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Lima Memorial Health System Emergency Room. He was born April 25, 1950, in Lima, the son of James and Pearl (Roe) Mullins, who preceded him in death.

Survivors include, three children, Victoria L. Mullins and Eric M. Mullins, both of Wapakoneta, and Steven A. Mullins, of Marion; siblings, James (Peggy) Mullins, of Denton, Texas, Betti Hendrickson, of Maynardville, Tenn.; former wife and mother of the children, Caroline (Ewing) Hickman; several nieces and nephews.

Betty L. Sheipline, 90

Betty L. Sheipline, 90, of Wapakoneta, died at 4:30 p.m., April 15, 2014, at Otterbein Cridersville. She was born May 25, 1923, in Auglaize County, the daughter of Walter and Francis (Kupper) Vossler, who preceded her in death. On Feb. 3, 1948, she married Harry E. Sheipline, and he died July 10, 1988.

50-, 60-somethings help Locks of Love

CELINA — It’s rare for an adult to donate to Locks of Love.

It’s even rarer to find two men in their 50s and 60s to donate.

But for two Waynesfield residents, 56-year-old Bill Smith and 63-year-old Dan Macias, these facts mattered little, as long as they were helping people.

“It ain’t about me — what it’s really about is if this hair helps a cancer patient who can’t afford a wig, I think that’s great,” said Smith, owner of Smitty’s General Contracting in Waynesfield.

Voting machines pass public test

The Auglaize County Board of Elections met Wednesday morning to complete the public testing of the equipment that will be used for the upcoming May 6 election.

Board members Fran Engle, Diana Dulebohn, Brent Henschen and Bill Roth went through a simulation of voters inserting their ballots into the polling machines along with Deputy Director Peg Matheny.

The three precincts that were included in the test were Waynesfield, Wapakoneta 2B and Logan Township.
Director Michelle Wilcox explained why these three were chosen.

Lenten services come to a close

The final Wednesday Lenten service organized by the Wapakoneta Area Ministerial Association was held in honor of Holy Week at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Linda McCune, parish member of St. Joseph, said she enjoyed the Wednesday service, particularly Rev. David Williams’ homily.

“I thought it was excellent,” McCune said. “He gave the eulogy, he could play the organ, he could sing, he was very good.”

Waynesfield's own, Turner, set to lead former school

One of Waynesfield’s own is taking over the Tigers football program, and the hope is the young man can build a successful program for a long time.

The Waynesfield-Goshen school board approved hiring 25-year-old Tyler Turner as the new head varsity football coach for Waynesfield-Goshen High School.

Turner, who played football for the Tigers, is a 2006 graduate from W-G.

Turner also played baseball and did powerlifting while in high school. He attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, for college.
