James W. ‘Jim’ Wills, 85

January 7, 2014

James W. “Jim” Wills, 85, of Wapakoneta, died at 3:16 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.

He was born on March 27, 1928, in Lima, to James “Pete” and Bessie (Darst) Wills who, preceded him in death.  On Aug. 26, 1965, he married Marlene J. Cox, who survives in Wapakoneta.

Cold battery causes crank-ing issues

With the temperature reaching below freezing, auto care professionals are reminding people to get their cars checked out to make sure they’ll be able to perform in these conditions.

“The biggest thing you can do is to get a 50 point inspection,” said Hank Lininger, an auto technician at NAPA Auto Parts. “They’ll make sure that your brakes, battery, cooling system and antifreeze tests out right, which can all possibly cause problems in weather like this.”

Below zero temperatures, drifts of snow and a day off from school mean nothing for local dairy farmers at Maplevalley Farms.

As temperatures dropped roughly 40 degrees in a 12-hour period Monday, the Steinke family had a lot of preparing to do to ensure the safety of their cows on the farm.

Protocols, weather top council discussion

On a bitterly cold Monday evening, Wapakoneta City Council met to conduct regular business, but the main concern remains the weather.

The first order of business was welcoming Rachel Barber to council. No stranger to council, Barber sparked discussion with a question on why details of the various ordnances weren’t provided.

While the information is available from the departments tied to an ordnance, First Ward Councilman James Neumeier suggested that including the specifics of an ordnance should be added to council’s protocol.
