The Defiance Bulldogs showed why they were the 10th-ranked team in the state earlier this week.

In the third period Friday, the Bulldogs pounded the Wapakoneta Redskins 23-3, while senior Trey Guilliam scored 12 straight points after the Bulldogs led by just two, 24-22, at halftime.

Defiance’s huge surge after halftime was more than enough to secure a 58-42 victory Friday in a Western Buckeye League varsity boys basketball game at Wapakoneta High School.

Firefighter files suit in federal court

January 25, 2014

The case of a Wapakoneta fire captain who was demoted to firefighter and later fired has gone to the next level.

Tom Stinebaugh, who was demoted in March, 2012, and fired that September, has filed a civil suit in federal court.

Stinebaugh was a fire captain at the beginning of 2012, but was demoted to firefighter in March of that year.

The city claimed that Stinebaugh, without authorization, spoke out to council members against the city’s decision to spend $476,000 to purchase a heavy rescue fire truck.
