Peggy S. McKenzie 74, of Wapakoneta, died at 5 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at her residence.
Arrangements are incomplete at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Wapakoneta.

Patricia Watters, 74

Patricia A. “Pat” Watters, 74, of Wapakoneta, died at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Auglaize Acres in Wapakoneta.
She was born Sept. 20, 1938, in Wapakoneta, the daughter of Lucinda Jane (Cris) and Robert Reier, who preceded her in death. On Feb. 25, 1955, she married Lawrence R. Watters, and he died March 30, 1997.

Diesel fuel spill makes way from Erie St. into Auglaize River

A diesel fuel spill on Erie Street traveled through the city sewer system and made its way into the Auglaize River where booms were placed near the Water Street Bridge with a second precautionary barrier placed near the Harrison Street Bridge.
Wapakoneta Fire Chief Kendall Krites directed firefighters and Wapakoneta Public Works Department personnel to place booms near the CSX railroad trestle, west of the Water Street Bridge, and a second set of booms east of the dam.

Utilities may spur airport annexation

ACME: Defense dooms Wapak in 5-3 loss to Minster

MINSTER — A defensive meltdown by Wapakoneta allowed Minster to take the lead in what proved to be its final at-bat Tuesday, as Minster recorded a 5-3 win over Wapakoneta on Tuesday in district qualifier in the Auglaize County ACME sectional tournament at Hanover Street Park.

Minster’s fortuitous sixth inning began with Max Huber reaching first base on Wapak catcher Nate Kaeck’s second catcher’s obstruction infraction of the game and advancing to second on a single.

ACME: Wapak rallies past St. Marys to advance

MINSTER — Under the lights on a chilly, sometimes breezy night, Wapakoneta ACME performed when needed most Monday in order to advance.

Wapakoneta rallied from a 4-0 deficit to beat St. Marys, 5-4, on Monday in the quarterfinals of the double-elimination Auglaize County ACME sectional tournament at Hanover Street Park.

With the win, Wapakoneta advanced to face Minster, a 2-1 winner over New Bremen earlier Monday. The loss dropped St. Marys into the loser’s bracket with New Bremen.

Trailing 4-1, Wapak broke through in the sixth inning to take the lead for good Monday.

C’ville principal retires

A career teaching and later serving as principal of a local elementary school, Dave Tester said, was both what he expected and hoped to do.
“I loved teaching for all those years,” said Tester, who spent his last day as principal of Cridersville Elementary School on Friday. “It was always great to get to know a class and spend the entire year with them and see them grow.
“As principal, I have continued to enjoy working with kids and have always really enjoyed working with staff, parents and the community,” he said.

EAB grant sought

A Wapakoneta city administrator has started the process to apply for federal grants to continue the fight against the emerald ash borer, which was discovered at rest areas along Interstate 75 in August 2005.
