Norma Jean Smith, 75, of Wapakoneta, died at 11:04 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at Auglaize Acres.
Arrangements are incomplete at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta.

OHSAA board approves winter, spring divisions

New tournament divisions for winter and spring sports were announced Thursday upon the Ohio High School Athletic Association board of directors’ regularly scheduled monthly meeting.

The board approved divisional alignments for its member schools in winter and spring sports, which will be in effect for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 school years.

Wapakoneta will remain in Division II for both boys and girls basketball. With 332 girls, Wapak was 10 shy of the cutoff for Division I schools.

Waynesfield-Goshen and Botkins will each stay in Division IV for basketball.

W-G tops Riverside in NWCC opener

WAYNESFIELD — The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers varsity boys golf team landed a 187-209 win Thursday over the Riverside Pirates in Northwest Central Conference action at Prairie View Golf Club.

Trey Crumrine paced W-G with a nine-hole score of 41 on Thursday on his way to being match medalist.

Lake Turner was second for W-G with a 46, while Gabe Wilcox scored a 48 and Brandon Turner carded a 52.

Landon Kelsey led Riverside with a 44.

Wapak falls to Perrysburg in season opener

The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity girls golf team began its 2013 regular season Thursday with a 162-189 loss to the Perrysburg Yellow Jackets, in non-league dual match played at White Pines Golf Course in Swanton.

Perrysburg’s Monica Dorner was the match medalist with a nine-hole score of 37.

Shelby Kohler paced Wapak with a 42.

Completing the top four scoring totals for the Redskins were Zoe Rayburn (48), Haley Kinstle (49) and Sierra Sammons (50).

Cridersville teacher loved children

A teacher who retired after 35 years from Cridersville Elementary at the end of the school year has found a new job — caring for her first grandchild.
Vicki Bailey plans to watch 6-week-old Addison at least two days a week at her home in Marysville. When she is not there watching her granddaughter, Bailey also plans to visit her often.

Students share creative outlets — Youth art projects exhibited at fair

An explosion of color and creativity covered the walls of the Fine Arts Building at the Auglaize County Fair last week.
Student art projects, including drawings, paintings, pottery, photography and other forms of art were exhibited for members of the community to enjoy. Participating schools included students from Wapakoneta, New Knoxville, St. Marys, Waynesfield-Goshen, Cridersville and New Bremen.
