Paul T. ‘Tom’ Connors Sr., 63

Paul T. “Tom” Connors Sr., 63, of Wapakoneta, died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg.
He was born July 23, 1950, in Estil, Ky., the son of Valley (Cooley) and Thomas Burton Connors, who preceded him in death. On April 9, 2010, he married Kathy Wagner, and she survives.

Chasing a dream

Campers came back to  Earth during the last day of the Armstrong Air & Space Museum space camp, after launching rockets into the sky as their last activity on Friday. 

Counting down from 10, the campers cheered on each child as they waited their turns to launch their rockets. 

Building the rockets, feeling weightlessness in a swimming pool, designing mission patches, flying in a private plane and other hands-on activities gave campers the feeling they were astronauts in training during space camp. 

Retired psychologist notes changes

A psychologist retiring after 29 years at Wapakoneta City Schools spent her first seven years in education teaching.

While she spent much of her time working in the district’s elementary schools, Roberta Parker also evaluated children with multiple disabilities and worked with children attending programs outside of the district and filled in as needed at other buildings. Her assignments changed frequently as needed. 

No suspects in multiple vehicle break-ins

Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office deputies have no suspects in at least six separate incidents of thefts from at least eight different vehicles.

The thefts took place within a 3-mile radius south and east of Wapakoneta overnight Thursday, Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon said.

He said a number of items were removed from the vehicles, with at least one vehicle forcibly entered to remove an item visible to the suspect.

The sheriff said his deputies continue to investigate the incidents.

Wapak grabs 3rd at tournament in Celina

CELINA — The Wapakoneta Redskins grabbed a third-place finish Friday at the Celina Bulldog Girls Golf Invitational in varsity action at Fox’s Den Golf Course.

The Redskins shot a team total of 388, edging host Celina (390) for the third spot.

Wapakoneta senior Shelby Kohler finished sixth overall with an 18-hole score of 88.

W-G notches 1st ever girls golf win

The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers varsity girls golf team notched its first win in school history Friday, tallying a 265-270 victory over the Fort Recovery Indians in a dual match played at the Mercer County Elks Country Club in Celina.

W-G started its first full girls golf season in school history this school year beginning Friday.

The Tigers were led by Kennedy Rumer and Chelsea Spencer, who each tallied a 57. Also for W-G, Elva Anne Shephard had a 71, while Hannah Williams scored an 80.

Renovations recognized

Renovations to the Auglaize County Courthouse are being recognized again with another historic preservation award from a state organization.
The courthouse has been named a recipient of the Preservation Merit Award from the Ohio Historic Preservation Office of the Ohio Historical Society.

Going green
