The Wapakoneta Redskins cross country teams will head to the site of the Ohio High School Athletic Association state championships Saturday to compete in the OHSAA Early Season Invitational at National Trail Raceway in Hebron.
The invitational is Wapakâ€™s first regular season event of the 2013 season.
Wapakâ€™s boys team will compete at 1:50 p.m. Saturday in Section F, one of four scored boys races, while the Redskins girls squad will race at 4:20 p.m. Saturday in Section H, one of four scored girls races.

The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers topped the Ridgemont Golden Gophers, 183-203, in a Northwest Central Conference varsity boys golf match Thursday at Veterans Memorial Park Golf Club in Kenton.
Trey Crumrine and Lake Turner each posted 44 on Thursday to lead W-G.
Gabe Wilcox (47) and Brandon Turner (48) finished the Tigers’ scoring. Caden Spencer (57) and Drew Lament (60) also played for W-G.

The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers grabbed their second straight win in match play Thursday with a 233-254 victory over the Riverside Pirates at Prairie View Golf Club in Waynesfield.
With the win, W-G moved to 2-0 overall this season.
The Tigers were led by match medalist Chelsea Spencer’s 51, a season-best.
Kennedy Rumer had a 58, Kiersten Wilcox notched a season-best 60 and Elva Anne Shephard tallied a 64 for W-G.
Destiny Jones was the low scorer for Riverside at 57.
Robert â€śBobâ€ť L. Moyler Jr. 60, of Cridersville passed away at 7:50 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013 surrounded by his family at Lima Memorial Health System after a short battle with lung cancer.
He was born Feb. 8, 1953, to Frances (Van Over) and Robert L. Moyler Sr. His mother preceded him in death and his father survives in Wapakoneta. On Dec. 8, 1984, he married Dawn M. Laffin, who survives in Cridersville.
Evelyn I. Oakley, 90, of Jackson Center, passed away at 4:26 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Sidney.
She was born, in Jackson Center, on Sept. 20, 1922, to the late Kathryn (Brann) and Walter E. Leininger. She married Emmett E. Oakley 70 years ago on May 15, 1943, and he survives.
Margaret L. Kantner 87, of Wapakoneta, died at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at St. Ritaâ€™s Medical Center in Lima.
She was born Sept. 19, 1925, in Lima, to Edith (Hoaglin) and Alvie Warren Hall, who preceded her in death. On Oct. 10, 1943, she married Emmet L. Kantner, and he passed away on July 31, 2003.
La Donna J. Hoel, 79, of Waynesfield, died at 3:35 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013 at her residence in Waynesfield.
She was born April, 27, 1934, in Preble County, to the late Clara (Hornbeck) and Russell Guenther. On Jan. 20, 1951, in New Paris, she married Kenneth W. Hoel, and he preceded her in death on May 20, 1986.
Gary L. â€śGizmoâ€ť Gossard Sr., 62, of Celina, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013 in St. Rita Hospital in Lima.
Earl Vorhees led a full and varied life. Always curious and with a keen intellect, he loved the journey of exploring new things. His friends half-jokingly called him â€śthe most interesting man in the world.â€ť Husband, father, thespian, teacher, writer, factory manager, labor organizer, timber-framer, yacht and barn restorationist, skier and sailor â€” he was passionate about them all.
As workers near the end of phase one of the East Auglaize Street reconstruction project, members of the Wapakoneta City Council Streets and Alleys Committee met Thursday with officials from the city engineerâ€™s office to view the progress.
â€śWe are pleased with the progress,â€ť said Dan Graf, committee chairman. â€śThe features included are time-tested and should last a long time. The architectural features that are being used are pleasing to the eye. We couldnâ€™t be happier.â€ť
