Redskins shut out Elida in WBL match

The Wapakoneta Redskins shut out the Elida Bulldogs, 5-0, in a Western Buckeye League varsity girls tennis match Thursday in Elida.

Wapak won four of the five matches in three sets, while Kaitlin Snider rallied from a dropped first set to beat C’era Savage in first singles, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0.

Allie Zofkie won second singles for Wapak over Meredith Lize, 6-3, 6-0.

In third singles, Rachel Roberts won all 12 sets against Haley Hurst to notch a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Wapak wins close match over Elida, 172-176

The Wapakoneta Redskins recorded another close win Thursday in their 172-176 victory over the Elida Bulldogs in a Western Buckeye League varsity boys golf match at the Wapakoneta Country Club. Wapak edged Greenville, 172-174, on Tuesday.

Elida was winning Thursday’s match by four strokes until Wapak’s No. 5 player, Alex Gossard, turned in a 44, to give the Redskins a four-stroke win.

Wapakoneta senior Bobby Crow was the match medalist Thursday with a 39.

Wapak records 2nd straight shutout in win over SJ

The Wapakoneta Redskins recorded their second straight shutout in their third straight non-league win with a 3-0 victory Thursday over the St. John’s Blue Jays in Delphos.

Wapak had non-league wins over Ottoville and Fort Jennings in its first two games of this season, with a 5-0 score in the Fort Jennings win.

The Redskins’ scored all three of their goals in the second half.

Russia hands Botkins 1st loss in SCAL match

The Botkins Trojans took their first loss of the season Thursday in a 169-187 defeat against the Russia Raiders in a Shelby County Athletic League varsity boys golf match at Stillwater Valley Golf Club in Versailles.

Only one Botkins score would have placed in Russia’s top four Thursday, as Alex Roberts’ 47 led the Trojans on Thursday.

Botkins tops Lakers for 1st win

The Botkins Trojans varsity volleyball team found its first win of the season Thursday with a 3-0 victory over the Indian Lake Lakers in a non-league match.

Botkins won Thursday’s match by scores of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-17.

Sami Vehorn led Botkins with nine kills. Denise Schwartz added seven kills.

Jocelyn Counts notched 11 assists.

Allison Guckes posted 15 digs, while Rachelle Maurer had 12 digs.

Botkins evened its overall record at 1-1 with Thursday’s win.

Botkins plays scoreless tie, 0-0, in season opener

The Botkins Trojans played to a scoreless tie, 0-0, in their season opener Thursday against the West Liberty-Salem Tigers in a non-league varsity boys soccer game.

Christian Hoskins had eight saves in goal for the Trojans.

Botkins attempted six shots at the net Thursday.

The tie put Botkins’ overall record 0-0-1 for the season.

The Trojans will visit Fairlawn in a match at 10 a.m. Saturday.

LCC blanks Botkins, 6-0

The Botkins Trojans lost their first game of the season, 6-0, to the Lima Central Catholic Thunderbirds in varsity girls soccer action Thursday in Lima.

LCC outshot Botkins, 24-9, in Thursday’s game.

Keirstyn Rogers had 14 saves and two steals for Botkins. Shelby Boyd added six steals. Natalie Ambos took four shots.

Botkin’s loss Thursday put its season record at 0-1-1.

The Trojans will visit Franklin Monroe for their next game, which will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Legislators dilemma

The village of Uniopolis could experience a legislative problem with the new year — with four seats open and only one person running, they will not have a quorum to pass legislation or to even appoint councilors.
They also may not have a mayor since the current mayor is not running and not enough votes exist for councilors to appoint a new council president, who would then become acting mayor.

Teachers trained during waiver day

While their teachers underwent training, Wapakoneta City Schools students got to sleep in one more day before they had back to class Friday.
