Kenton bombs Redskins, 52-16, in WBL opener

The Kenton Wildcats tortured the Wapakoneta Redskins’ secondary Friday in a 52-16 rout in the Western Buckeye League season opener for both teams in varsity football action at Harmon Field.

The Wildcats’ passing attack accounted for 448 yards with six touchdowns by senior quarterback Grant Sherman, who threw for 425 yards passing and all six TDs.

Kenton rolled to a 52-0 advantage through three quarters with its starters in the game.

Sheffer, Fort Recovery dominate W-G, 54-0

WAYNESFIELD — It was simply total domination.

The Fort Recovery Indians ran around, through and over the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers in a 54-0 win in a non-league varsity football game Friday.

The game wasn’t even as close as the score may indicate.

After showing some promising areas despite losing 48-3 last week, the Tigers didn’t appear to show anything this time around and appear to be back at square one.

Redskins stay unbeaten with sweep of Defiance

The undefeated Wapakoneta Redskins won their third consecutive Western Buckeye League match in as many days with a 5-0 victory Thursday over the Defiance Bulldogs in a varsity girls tennis match at the Wapakoneta Rotary Courts.

The win pushed Wapak to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the WBL with three league matches remaining this season.

Redskins tie Elida, 0-0, in WBL action

High levels of pace of play, physicality, intensity and desperation prominently dictated an exciting second half in an important, early Western Buckeye League contest Thursday. The result, however, was a 0-0 tie between the host Wapakoneta Redskins and the Elida Bulldogs in a varsity boys soccer game at Ryan Field.

OHSAA board aligns track and field divisions

Track and field divisional alignments for the next two seasons were announced Thursday by the Ohio High School Athletic Association following a regularly scheduled monthly meeting for September.

Wapakoneta will be a Division I school, while Waynesfield-Goshen and Botkins will each compete in Division III.

Until Thursday, track and field was the only OHSAA-sanctioned varsity sport that the association had yet to assign tournament divisions for.

Elida rallies to beat Wapakoneta in 5

What ailed the Wapakoneta Redskins in the fourth game Thursday stuck with them in the lopsided fifth game as they allowed a 2-1 match lead to turn into a 3-2 defeat to the Elida Bulldogs in Western Buckeye League varsity volleyball action in Elida.

Thursday’s scores were 25-22, 18-25, 13-25, 25-19 and 15-2.

“The loss in the fourth game set the tone for the fifth set,” Wapak varsity coach Amy Ruppert said. “Elida has a couple nice servers and we got hung up in serve-receive making error after error after error.

Defiance handles Wapakoneta, 158-178, in WBL match

The Wapakoneta Redskins fell two losses behind Western Buckeye League leader, the Bath Wildcats, after a 158-178 loss Thursday against the Defiance Bulldogs in a WBL varsity boys golf match at Eagle Rock Golf Club in Defiance.

The loss dropped Wapak to 4-2 in WBL play, while Bath remained perfect in league action at 6-0 with a 165-176 victory Thursday over Van Wert.

Schaub's late goal gives Wapak win over LCC

Lilli Schaub’s goal with just under nine minutes left in Thursday’s contest broke a 1-1 tie and proved to be the difference in the Wapakoneta Redskins’ 2-1 victory over the Lima Central Catholic Thunderbirds in non-league varsity girls soccer action at Harmon Field.

More than 70 minutes of game action passed between Wapak’s first and second goals Thursday, as Kylee Dahman scored the Redskins’ first goal 21 seconds into the first half.

Auglaize County commissioners have made an offer on a house with future plans to level it and turn it into parking for the courthouse.
Commissioner John Bergman said they were contacted by Patricia Werst about purchasing the house at 206 Willipie St., which was left to her by her father.
