LCC gives Wapakoneta 1st loss of season

The Wapakoneta Redskins received their first loss of the season Saturday.

In a visit to Lima Stadium, the Redskins were defeated 2-0 by the Lima Central Catholic Thunderbirds in a non-league varsity boys soccer contest.

The loss moved Wapak’s season record to 5-1-1.

Two goals by LCC in the first half stood up the remainder of the game Saturday.

The T-birds’ Sean Daley opened the scoring at 5:09 with a goal. Nearing halftime, Daley posted another goal at 38:54 to conclude the scoring.

Western Buckeye League releases mobile app

The Western Buckeye League announced Saturday it has released an official conference sports mobile application.

The app is available to download from the iTunes store for Apple mobile devices or on Google Play for Android mobile devices.

Search “WBL Sports” to locate the download screen on mobile devices.

The app costs $0.99 to download.

The WBL will receive 50 percent of every app sold.

Sixty-four lawn mowers took to the ring in different heats — fighting to be the one is left standing — resulted in a record day.
The event set records in participants and money raised for the 13th annual K & R Lawnmower Derby held for local charities. The event raised $11,800 and 64 mowers participated in the event held at the Auglaize County Fairgrounds.
“It just gets bigger and bigger every year,” said Jeremy Reser, one of the event’s organizers.

Carl Thomas, 88

Carl Francis Thomas, 88, of Lima, died at 4:25 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at Wapak Manor Nursing Home in Wapakoneta.
Services will be held Monday, Sept. 23, at Chiles — Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Eastside Chapel, with the Rev. Charlotte Hefner officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at the chapel.
Other arrangements are incomplete at the funeral home.

WAYNESFIELD — Students bussed by Waynesfield-Goshen Schools participated in bus evacuation drills on Wednesday and Thursday as part of a state requirement.
W-G Transportation Supervisor Deb Ulrey said the drills must be completed annually as required by the Ohio Department of Education’s School Transportation Division.
“The drills are required once a year and are the responsibility of the bus driver’s to complete,” Ulrey said. “You have to do a front entrance evacuation, a back door evacuation, and a combined.”
