C’ville draws U.S. rep

CRIDERSVILLE — During a visit to meet with the mayor, Republican U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan learned how an area facility is using community outreach is trying to improve the life of its residents during a tour of the recently renovated Cridersville Healthcare Center. 
“I was elated that he took the time to meet with people at the Healthcare Center and listen to our concerns,” Mayor Lorali Myers said.
Administrator Amy Kentner requested Jordan visit the center to see the accomplishments they have made throughout the past year.

Tricks, treats on Halloween

Truck pulls prompt crowd

CRIDERSVILLE — Approximately 20 residents crammed into the Cridersville Municipal Building Monday, most expressing concerns to Cridersville Village Council members about truck pulls being held Thursday through Sunday nights.

Wapakoneta finishes WBL regular season at 9-0

History was made Monday on the Rotary Courts at Wapakoneta High School.

The Wapakoneta Redskins varsity girls tennis team completed their first ever unbeaten season in Western Buckeye League matches, as their 5-0 win Monday over Van Wert in the WBL finale moved the Redskins’ league record to 9-0, clinching the WBL regular season title.

Wapak had previously outright won (at 7-0 in 1980 and 1981) or tied for the WBL regular season title but never with a 9-0 record.

Wapakoneta rallies past Celina for WBL win, 2-1

A promise fulfilled in the second half gave the Wapakoneta Redskins an important 2-1 win Monday over the Celina Bulldogs in Western Buckeye League varsity boys soccer action at Ryan Field.

The loss was Celina’s first of the season in WBL play.

Wapak varsity coach Keith Rambin explained his halftime promise.

“I made the promise at halftime: I told the players that if they start possessing the ball, they’ll get more shots,” Rambin said.

The Redskins did just so.

Wapakoneta routs Van Wert in WBL finale, 159-181

The Wapakoneta Redskins ended their Western Buckeye League schedule Monday with a 159-181 win over the Van Wert Cougars at Hickory Sticks Golf Course in Van Wert.

The win moved Wapak to 7-2 overall in the WBL, good for second place, and gave Wapak a three-match win streak in WBL play.

Redskins beat Celina by 8 strokes, 189-197

Wapakoneta senior Shelby Kohler shot a season-low for nine holes Monday in her team’s 189-197 win Monday against the Celina Bulldogs at Fox’s Den Golf Course in Celina.

Kohler parred the last five holes en route to a 39, earning match medalist honors.

“Shelby had a great night,” Wapak varsity coach Dawn West said Monday. “She was in control of her swing the entire round even on the holes she made bogey. She has really been a great leader for our team this season.”

Allen East tops Waynesfield-Goshen in 4 games

The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers dropped a non-league match, 3-1, to the Allen East Mustangs on Monday in varsity volleyball action.

W-G won the first game but then lost the next three.

Monday’s scores were 22-25, 25-10, 25-22 and 25-22.

The loss put W-G’s overall record at 2-10.

The Tigers will continue their season Thursday with a Northwest Central Conference match against the Riverside Pirates.

W-G is 2-1 in the NWCC.

Wapakoneta freshman Allie Zofkie placed fifth overall out of 177 runners Saturday in the Galion Cross Country Festival at Amann’s Reservoir Park.

Her finish scored four points for Wapak, as the Redskins took 20th place out 27 teams in the Division I meet, totaling 570 points.

Rounding out of the scoring for Wapak were Nicole King (132nd; 23:13.8), Morgan Miller (145th; 24:10.3), Summer Griner (148th; 24:18.2) and Megan Watt (149th; 24:25.7).

Floras shine for Botkins at Eaton meet

Botkins’ Chloe Flora ran the sixth-fastest time in school history Saturday at the Eaton Invitational.

Her time of 19 minutes, 47 seconds placed her fourth overall in the race, as the Trojans finished 10th out of 12 teams.

Bethany Christman (41st; 22:57), Corinne Woodruff (70th; 24:16), Mackenzie Brown (72nd; 24:21) and Tayler Weatherhead (73rd; 24:21) rounded out Botkins’ scoring five.

Lakota Running Hawk (78th; 24:41) and Abbey Johnson (84th; 25:07) also ran for Botkins.
