Redskins stung early in loss to Yellow Jackets

A less than ideal start put the Wapakoneta Redskins in what proved to be too big of a hole Thursday against the visiting Sidney Yellow Jackets.

The host Redskins trailed 3-0 with 17:27 before halftime and did not recover in their 3-1 loss Thursday in a non-league varsity boys soccer match at Ryan Field.

The loss came in Wapak’s final match before its big Western Buckeye League showdown Monday against the St. Marys Roughriders.

Roland Truesdale, 77

Roland R. Truesdale, 77, of rural Elida, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at his residence.
Arrangements are incomplete at Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta.

Contracts OK’d

Salaries were set Tuesday for three administrators, an operations building secretary was hired part-time, and supplemental contracts were approved during a regular meeting of the Wapakoneta City Schools Board of Education.
Steve Heitz, Lori McKean and Dave Tangeman, who respectively supervise maintenance, food services and transportation for the district, were shifted to a salary-based schedule rather than the hourly pay they received previously during a meeting in August. Their new salaries were adjusted beginning Monday.

Battle over e-cigarettes hits Capitol

With one in every five Ohio deaths linked to tobacco use and the industry’s attempt to replace as many as 500,000 customers who die from tobacco-related deaths each year, an effort on Capitol Hill is being spearheaded to keep electronic cigarettes out of the hands of today’s youth and eliminate advertising aimed at children to get them to start smoking.

Wapakoneta aims to knock Celina off top of WBL

The Wapakoneta Redskins will look to put Celina where they are after Friday’s game — behind Kenton in the Western Buckeye League football standings, as Wapakoneta will host the Celina Bulldogs in a big WBL contest Friday at Harmon Field.

Kenton and Celina are each 2-0 in the WBL entering Friday. Wapak, meanwhile, is 1-1, with a loss to Kenton in the league opener.

Ghost hunter tells of local haunts, scares area residents

In the spirit of Halloween, young and old alike anticipate hearing ghost stories.
A few visitors to the Wapakoneta library may have received more than what they bargained for.
Paranormal investigator and author John B. Kachuba gave a presentation at the Auglaize County Public Library Tuesday about “real” haunted locations. He spoke of local haunts that he has researched and locations where he has conducted paranormal investigations.
Anita Foor, of Wapakoneta, said she came to the presentation out of curiosity.

Mayor’s court to begin in W’field

WAYNESFIELD — An ordinance establishing the fine schedule for mayor’s court in Waynesfield received approval from Waynesfield Village Council members at Monday’s meeting, and Police Chief Nathan Motter said the village is ready to begin processing cases in October.
