Thomas A. â€śTomâ€ť Taylor, 82, of Lakeview, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at Lima Memorial Hospital while surrounded by his family.
Tom was born on March 13, 1931, in Stokes Twp, Logan Co., to the late Lester B. & Mildred A. Babcock Taylor. He was also preceded in death by a son, Todd Taylor; a daughter, Karen Kindle; a stepson, Greg Worthington; a granddaughter, Kacie Wray, and a brother, Stanley Taylor. In February 1975, he married the former Janet Sanders in Cridersville, and she survives.
James W. â€śJimboâ€ť Kiser, 48, of Wapakoneta, died at 5:55 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima.
He was born on Aug. 28, 1965, in Dayton to John W. & Connie S. (Howard) Kiser.Â His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Wapakoneta.
R. Mary Schneider, 61, of Wapakoneta, died at 5:53 a.m. Wednesday, Dec.18, 2013, at her residence after and extended illness.
She was born July 2, 1952 in Indianapolis, Ind., to Raymond T & Ruth O. (DeLawder) Friestuhler who preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter and son, Anita (Mike) Foor and Calvin (Jamie) Schneider, both of Wapakoneta; six grandchildren, Serena, Sara, Connor Foor, Jacob and Cody Metzger and Kyle Schneider.
She was preceded in death by a brother Raymond Friestuhler.
Paula J. â€śPoohâ€ť Roy, 44, of Wapakoneta, went home to be with her Lord at 8:20 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, following a short battle with cancer. She was born June 3, 1969, in Lima, the daughter of John and Barbara Jean (Newland) Norman. Her mother, Barbara Jean Norman survives in Wapakoneta, and her father & step-mother, John and Mary Norman survive in Lima.

Local students who qualified for this year’s spelling bee at the Wapakoneta Middle School found the courage to show their study efforts this past year while spelling out words in the spotlight.
Tyler Shroyer, 12, won first place in the spelling bee, despite the nerves he faced while competing with his peers. His winning word, “bountiful” is now his favorite word, he said. “I’ve never been up there before,” Shroyer said. “I didn’t think I would win because of all the 7th graders.”
Wapakoneta students helped the community get into the holiday spirit with their annual holiday choral performance.
“Singing in a Winter Wonderland” was performed by the Wapakoneta Middle School and Wapakoneta High School choirs Tuesday evening.
A Wapakoneta High School student’s project on roadway safety for tractor and farming equipment has caught the attention of Wapakoneta Police Chief Russel Hunlock, who said he wants the public to be aware of this issue.
WHS senior, Michael Spees, chose to do his 12th grade English project on this topic because he said that most people aren’t being careful enough when they encounter tractors and other farming equipment on the road.
BLUFFTON — A banked-in 3-pointer as time expired in the third period Tuesday all but deflated the Wapakoneta Redskins.
The triple put the Bluffton Pirates ahead by seven points, 36-29, entering the fourth period and proved to be enough of a cushion in the low-scoring affair.
Bluffton used the momentum from the buzzer-beater to more than double its margin by game’s end in a 57-41 win Tuesday over Wapakoneta in a non-league varsity boys basketball game in Pirate Gymnasium at Bluffton High School.
James Lewis Schumann, 77, of Wheelock Street, Keene, N.H. died at the Cheshire Medical Center-Dartmouth-Hitchcock in Keene on Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, after a period of failing health.
Jim was a former resident of Wapakoneta and was a graduate of Blume High School. He was a member at St. Markâ€™s Lutheran Church and was married in the church on July 27, 1958 to Wanda Lee Meyers and they have been married for fifty-five years.
A private memorial service and burial will be held at a later date in Keene, N.H.
