Erma Wauben, 75

Erma J. Wauben, 75, of Wapakoneta, died at 12:58 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 at Kindred Hospital in Lima.
She was born Aug. 31, 1937, in Hueysville, Ky., the daughter of to Polly (Prater) and Bob Griffith, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 22, 1960, she married Walter H. Wauben, and he survives in Wapakoneta.
Also surviving are a son, Terry Lee (Robin) Wauben, of Columbus, two granddaughters, Hailey Wauben and Hannah Wauben; two brothers, John ‘Buddy’ (Imogene) Griffith, of Cridersville, and Grover (Mary) Griffith, of Lima; and a sister, Joyce (Kenneth) Diltz of Cloverdale.

Walter Horner Jr., 68

Walter Seigle Horner Jr., 68, of St. Mary’s, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Select Specialty Hospital in Akron, after an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 1, 1944, in Ravenna, the son of Eloise (nee Marks) and Walter (Jack) Horner, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by two nieces, Kim Ullman (Mark Schmidt), of Cuyahoga Falls, and Kyle Ullman (Richard Freeman), of Gosport, Ind.; and numerous extended relatives.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Dixie Lee (Horner) Ullman.

Brown breaks two 3-point records

ST. MARYS — Wapakoneta’s Nicole Brown darted all over the floor, looking for a crevice of space to get off yet another 3-point attempt and break two school records she’s been stalking for a few years now.

Everyone in the gym knew another launch from the 5-foot-6 senior was coming and yet St. Marys couldn’t stop her. 

Principal moves on

Surveying what remained in his office, Wapakoneta High School Principal Aaron Rex prepared for his last day today.

Some of the Wapakoneta items he had collected through his 16 years at the school he planned to leave with others, but some he would take with him when he left.

“Over the years I have accumulated a lot of Redskins stuff,” Rex said.

Jerseys, certain clothing items, a football helmet and a Redskins clay pot made by the art teacher all will find their way to Rex’s home in Archbold.

Zuppardo voted council president for 2013

CRIDERSVILLE — The village of Cridersville has a new president taking over the helm of village council meetings this year.

Councilor Tony Zuppardo was nominated president for 2013 for the Cridersville Village Council, and councilors approved the appointment Thursday during a special council meeting.

Eric West served as the former council president.

Assistant principal named to finish year

An assistant principal has been named to join the Wapakoneta High School staff for the remainder of the school year.

Wapakoneta City Schools Superintendent Keith Horner announced this week Will Snyder, a Wapakoneta Middle School math and science teacher with the district since 2007, is to serve in the position alongside new principal Scott Minnig, who Horner appointed upon Rex’s resignation.

Ruth Epperson, 76

Ruth Ann Epperson, 76, of Wapakoneta, died peacefully at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Wapakoneta Manor with her family at her side.
She was born Jan. 13, 1937, in Wapakoneta, the daughter of Florence (Trego) and Richard F. South, who preceded her in death. On Oct. 13, 1959, she married Harold John Epperson, and he survives.
