Mary Schumann, 82, of Botkins, died at 1:08 a.m. today, Feb. 18, 2013, at Wapakoneta Manor.
Arrangements are incomplete at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta.

Walter Wauben, 73

February 18, 2013

Walter H. Wauben, 73, of Wapakoneta, died at 11:37 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15 at Lima Memorial Health Systems.
He was born April 23, 1939, in Lima, to Lucille (Konst) and William Mathew Wauben. On Nov. 22, 1960, he married Erma Jene Griffith, and she preceded him in death Feb. 1, 2013.
Surviving are a son, Terry (Robin) Wauben, of Galena; two granddaughters, Hailey Wauben and Hannah Wauben; two brothers, Charles (Mary) Wauben, of Delphos, and James (Sherry) Wauben, of Reston, Va.; and a sister, Jeanette (Rodney) Brown of Lima.

Gary Burden, 66

Gary A. Burden, 66, of Indian River, Mich., formerly of Westminster, died at 3:17 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2013, at McLaren Hospital in Petoskey, Mich.
He was born Aug. 5, 1946 in Lima the son of Velma (Plaugher) and Ernest Burden.
He was married to Sandra K. Young and later to Donna K. Bogart.
Surviving are a son, Gary “Tom” Burden, of Harrod; and a daughter, Teresa Lieurance, of Lima.
Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Armentrout Funeral Home inn Waynesfield. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery inWestminster.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

Louis Heitz, 81

Father Louis S. Heitz, 81, of Cridersville, died at 9:32 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, surrounded by loving family.
Born Nov. 5, 1931, in Fort Jennings, he was the son of Rose (Stauterman) and Otto Heitz, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by three sisters, Mary (Virgil) German, Joan (George) Ross, and Betty Grace; a sister in-law, Dorothy Heitz; 21 nieces and nephews; 47 great-nieces and nephews; and 28 great-great-nieces and nephews.

Florence Copeland, 94

Florence Catherena Copeland, 94, of Jackson Center, passed away Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at Auglaize Acres in Wapakoneta.
She was born April 23, 1918, in Clay Township, the daughter of the late Malinda (Kanrr) and William S. Helmlinger.
On June 29, 1940, at St. Marks Church in Clay Township, she married Clifford Emerson Copeland, and he preceded her in death May 10, 1967.

Sylvia Lengerich, 76

Sylvia M. Lengerich, 76, of Fryburg, died at 9:47 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at Auglaize Acres in Wapakoneta.
She was born June 24, 1936, in Leicestershire, England, the daughter of Marie (Rose) and James Reed, who preceded her in death. On Jan. 31, 1959, at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Leicester, England, she married John G. Lengerich, and he died June 26, 2001.

State bound 'Skins: Swimmers sprint their way to State

BOWLING GREEN —  Nine Redskin swimmers have made their mark in the Wapakoneta history books and are heading to the State Meet in Canton, Ohio.

The Girls 200 Free Relay, the Girls 400 Free Relay, the Boys 200 Free Relay and an individual from the Girls 100 and 50 Free, have all qualified for spots at the State Meet.

The 38 dresses were being sold at the Octagon Club’s prom dress exchange — “Cinderella’s Encore: Once More Around the Dance Floor” — Saturday afternoon in the Wapakoneta High School choir room.

Auglaize County Engineer Doug Reinhart plans to close a portion of County Road 25A on Wednesday and Thursday in order for a piece of equipment to be delivered to a Wapakoneta business.

Reinhart told the Wapakoneta Daily News he would advise motorists to use Hardin Pike and Interstate 75 to avoid the road closure, which will occur south of Wapakoneta.

A Wapakoneta city administrator will be given the power to purchase items when needed or to answer an emergency if a piece of legislation is adopted tonight at the Wapakoneta City Council meeting.

Council members are scheduled to hear the third and final reading of an ordinance to authorize Safety-Service Director Bill Rains to advertise for bids and to enter into contracts for specific materials, service contracts and equipment rental for the operation of city departments.
