James Seitz, 89

James J. “Jim” Seitz, 89, of Lexington, passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 27, 2013, in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital.
He was born Dec. 15, 1923, in Wapakoneta, the oldest child of Alice (McEvoy) and Robert Seitz, and he graduated from Blume High School in Wapakoneta.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Geraldine “Jeri” (Brown) Seitz; a daughter, Mary Jane Wier (Brad Jeffrey), of Worthington; two brothers, Robert Seitz, of Wapakoneta, and William (Kathie) Seitz of Honor, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews that were like children to him.

Standoff ends peacefully

A nearly 3 1/2-hour standoff at the Western Suite Inn in Wapakoneta ended peacefully at approximately 6:30 p.m. Thursday when two men wanted on warrants out of Logan County surrendered to local law enforcement.

Officers with the Wapakoneta Police Department and members of the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team (SRT) and Hostage Negotiation Team managed to talk the two men — one wanted on a charge of burglary and the second on a charge of domestic violence — to surrender without incident.

Athletic Boosters seek new members, new ideas

This school organization helps hundreds of students who participate in athletics in the Wapakoneta City School system.

The Wapakoneta Athletic Boosters, consisting of members off the former Dad’s Club and other parent organizations, exists to help the sanctioned sports offered at Wapakoneta High School and Wapakoneta Middle School through donations.

New president takes over DWP, has many ideas for 2013

With the new year, a downtown organization has a new president and a busy schedule ahead.

The Downtown Wapakoneta Partnership (DWP) recently named Judie Presar as their president during this month’s annual dinner meeting on Feb. 12. She said there are many items on the agenda for this year, as the organization continues to grow since it’s establishment a few years ago.

“We are making a push for the community to partner with downtown,” Presar said. “Downtown is the heartbeat of the community.”

Officers with the Wapakoneta Police Department and members of the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team (SRT) took two men into custody at approximately 6:30 p.m. after a nearly 3 1/2 hour standoff in Wapakoneta.

Brad Pastor, 35, of Wapakoneta, formerly of Paulding, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013.

Leonard Hauser, 66

Leonard E. “Leo” Hauser, 66, of Wapakoneta, died at 9 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville after battling cancer.
He was born Dec. 21, 1946, in Los Angeles, to Merle V. (Kelly) and Byron A. Hauser, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Ellen (Michael) Engle, of Wapakoneta, and Elaine (Amy) Hauser, of Columbus; a son, Byron A. Hauser, of Columbus; three grandchildren, Justin, Erin, and Lillian; and two brothers, Clifford (Christine) Hauser, of Tucson, Ariz., and Wayne (Roxanne) Hauser, of Oregon.
