Elida gives Wapakoneta 1st loss of season, 3-1

The Wapakoneta Redskins lost their first game of the season Tuesday in a 3-1 defeat to the Elida Bulldogs in Western Buckeye League varsity girls soccer play.

The loss put Wapak's overall record at 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the WBL.

Sara Warner recorded Wapak's only goal of the contest.

Hope Carter scored twice for Elida, while Brett Pauff tallied the other goal.

The Bulldogs took nine shots on goal to Wapak's two.

Wapak goalkeeper Mikayla Halfhill had six saves.

Wapakoneta's 6-match win streak ends

The Wapakoneta Redskins ended a six-match winning streak Tuesday with a 3-0 loss to the Coldwater Cavaliers in a non-league varsity volleyball match.

Tuesday's scores were 25-12, 25-7 and 25-15.

"Coldwater is a very disciplined and well-coached team," Wapak varsity coach Amy Ruppert said. "We struggled with our serve-receive and that contributed to our loss because we couldn't get our offense going.

Botkins shoots season low against Anna

The Botkins Trojans smashed their nine-hole season low Tuesday in a 159-177 win over the Anna Rockets in varsity boys golf action.

Botkins' score bested the team's previous season low of 169.

Seth Hanna carded a 37 to lead Botkins. Nick Okuley shot a 39. Roger Miller posted a 40. Josh Miller had a 43.

Zach Zimpfer tallied a 41 for Anna's lowest round.

Botkins will face Fort Loramie on Thursday at Shelby Oaks Golf Course in Sidney.

Trojans tie Allen East, 1-1

The Botkins Trojans tied the Allen East Mustangs, 1-1, in a varsity girls soccer game Tuesday in Botkins.

The tie left Botkins still winless this season, as its record now stands at 0-3-2.

Natalie Ambos tallied Botkins' only goal, with Emily Brown recording the assist.

Keirstyn Rogers had six saves in goal for Botkins.

The Trojans will play at Lehman Catholic on Thursday.

Botkins falls to Jackson Center

The Botkins Trojans were swept in three games Tuesday by the Jackson Center Tigers in a Shelby County Athletic League varsity volleyball match in Botkins, with scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-16.

Rachelle Maurer and Denise Schwartz led Botkins with 18 digs each.

Taylor Doseck and Schwartz each had seven kills.

Blake Maurer had 12 assists for the Trojans.

Botkins dropped to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the SCAL with Tuesday's loss.

W-G loses home match to Pandora-Gilboa

The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers dropped a 3-0 decision Tuesday to the Pandora-Gilboa Rockets, with scores of 25-8, 25-6 and 25-19.

The loss moved W-G to 1-6 overall this season.

The Tigers will play at Lehman Catholic on Thursday.

Recovery after disaster at Mercy Unlimited

In March 2011, the Auglaize River flooded Mercy Unlimited during what Executive Director Tammy Brown described as “the perfect storm.”
She says the rain on top of several inches snow provided the perfect conditions for flooding.
“Only when the river gets a little higher than normal do I get a little nervous,” Brown said. “I have to remember that was unique situation and I shouldn’t be worried about it.”
“We had only been in the building for a year,” Brown said. “Everything was new, and then we had the 12 inches of water.”

Mental health help needed for PTSD

Ronald Lingenfelter, 77

September 4, 2013

Ronald Joe Lingenfelter, 77, of Lima, died at 6:04 p.m. Monday evening, Sept. 2, 2013, at Baton Rouge Health Services Community.
He was born Sept. 18, 1935, in Cridersville, to Juanita (McCune) and Samuel Roy Lingenfelter, and they precede him in death. On June 8, 1956, he married Georgia Carolyn Dalton, and she passed away Jan. 27, 2011.
