Wapak-Bath match suspended due to lightning

The Western Buckeye League varsity boys soccer match between the Wapakoneta Redskins and the Bath Wildcats was suspended Tuesday in Lima due to lightning.

The match will resume at 5 p.m. today.

Wapak was leading 1-0 with 22:31 left in the first half.

The Redskins were 1-0-1 in WBL play entering Tuesday’s match against Bath.

Redskins lose by 6 strokes to New Bremen, 193-199

For their second straight match, a different golfer played the leading role for the Wapakoneta Redskins, as junior Haley Kinstle posted a season-low 46 on Tuesday.

Her effort, however, came in a 193-199 loss to the New Bremen Cardinals at Arrowhead Golf Club in Minster in varsity girls golf action.

Wapak senior Zoe Rayburn led Wapak on Monday, marking the first time this season the team was not led by senior Shelby Kohler.

Trojans cruise to 10th win of season, beat Jets

The Botkins Trojans racked up another win Tuesday with a 167-209 victory over the Fairlawn Jets in a Shelby County Athletic League varsity boys golf match at Shelby Oaks Golf Course in Sidney.

The win put Botkins’ record at 10-1 overall this season and at 5-1 in SCAL matches.

The Trojans will play their final league match Thursday at home against Houston.

Roger Miller led Botkins with a 40 in Tuesday’s match.

Botkins loses by 1 goal to Newton, 2-1

The Botkins Trojans remained winless after a 2-1 loss Tuesday to the Newton Local Indians in a non-league varsity girls soccer match.

Botkins fell to 0-5-2 this season.

Newton Local scored both goals in the first half.

Natalie Ambos notched Botkins’ lone goal.

Keirstyn Rogers made 15 steals and six saves in goal for the Trojans.

Sierra Butcher added 10 steals for Botkins.

The Trojans will host the Riverdale Falcons in a non-league home match Saturday.

Trojans drop SCAL match to Fort Loramie

The Botkins Trojans took their fifth straight loss Tuesday in a 3-0 defeat against the Fort Loramie Redskins in Shelby County Athletic League varsity volleyball match in Botkins.

The Trojans moved to 2-7 overall and 0-4 in the SCAL.

Denise Schwartz led Botkins with 11 digs and six kills.

Rachelle Maurer added 10 digs.

Botkins will look for its first league win Thursday in a road match against the Fairlawn Jets.

Helen Roop, 83

Helen L. Roop, 83, of Wapakoneta, died at 10:48 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
She was born in Wapakoneta, the daughter of Hazel L. (Smith) and Don Wm. Benzing, who preceded her in death. On Aug. 26, 1949, she married T.J. Roop, and he survives.

Betty Bowsher, 89

September 10, 2013

Betty M. Bowsher, 89, of rural Spencerville, died at 3:09 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima following a short illness.
She was born Nov. 25, 1923, in Amanda Township, Allen County, the daughter of Blanche M. (Coon) and Clarence H. Boyer. On June 23, 1944, she married Kenneth E. Bowsher, who died Feb. 21, 1984.
Surviving are three children, Terry E. Bowsher, of Spencerville, Shannon M. Kubinski, of Wapakoneta, and Linda S. Johnston, of Lima.

Jeb Johnson, 24

Jeb T. Johnson, 24, of rural Spencerville, died suddenly at 12:01 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at the St. Rita’s Medical Emergency Department in Lima.
He was born Dec. 23, 1988, in Columbus, the son of Linda S. (Jones) and James M. Johnson, who survive in Spencerville.
Also surviving are a sister, Lacy (Dustin) Gallaspie, of Spencerville; his maternal grandparents, Helen and James Jones, of Buckland; several aunts and uncles; his best friend, Mike Wolford; and all of the family pets, whom he just loved.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, June and John Johnson.
