Redskins post 2nd straight win, 3-1, over Sidney

The Wapakoneta Redskins posted back-to-back wins after a 3-1 victory Monday over the Sidney Yellow Jackets in non-league varsity volleyball action, with the match’s scores being 25-21, 25-16, 22-25 and 25-23.

The win moved Wapak to 2-1 overall this season.

The Redskins hounded the net Monday, as Lea Stoner had 19 blocks and Josie Miller notched 15 blocks.

“We definitely had a nice block game tonight,” Wapak varsity coach Amy Ruppert said Monday. “Those are huge numbers.”

Wapak shuts out Bath, 5-0, in WBL

The Wapakoneta Redskins remained unbeaten Monday with a 5-0 win over the Bath Wildkittens in a Western Buckeye League varsity girls tennis match.

The win moved Wapak to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the WBL this season.

The Redskins won all five matches in two sets and lost only four games in the entire match Monday.

At first singles, Kaitlin Snyder blanked Dana Wieging, 6-0, 6-0. Allie Zofkie shut out Madison Pauff, 6-0, 6-0, in second singles. Rachel Roberts handled Maddie Helmig, 6-2, 6-0, at third singles.

Botkins falls to New Bremen, 3-1

BOTKINS — For a brief time, Botkins controlled Monday’s match against New Bremen, but elsewhere mistakes by the Trojans were too much to overcome in their 3-1 loss to the visiting Cardinals in non-league varsity volleyball play Monday.

New Bremen took the match in four games with scores of 25-13, 21-25, 25-17 and 25-16.

“This is a tough team,” Botkins varsity coach Bryan Trego said about New Bremen. “There’s no shame losing to them. They play a lot of tough teams throughout the year.”

W-G still winless after 3-1 loss to Jefferson

Waynesfield-Goshen first-year varsity coach Caitlin Klima said Monday was the best her team had played all season, and her players said it’s the best the program has played in a while.

The W-G Tigers lost a close 3-1 match to the Jefferson Wildcats on Monday in a non-league varsity volleyball match in Delphos, as Jefferson claimed the match win by scores of 25-18, 25-23, 21-25 and 25-15.

W-G is still winless this season through three matches.

Botkins golfers dominate tri-match

The Botkins Trojans dominated a tri-match Monday, using their team score of 169 to defeat Riverside’s 221 and Calvary Christian’s 238 in varsity boys golf action at Cherokee Hills Golf Course in Bellefontaine.

Roger Miller paced the Trojans with a 38 to earn match medalist honors. Josh Miller (42), Nick Okuley (44) and Spencer Stutsman (45) finished Botkins’ scoring.

Riverside was led by Landon Kelsey’s 45.

Peter Duffman paced Calvary Christian with a 54.

Tigers take 3rd in quad match

The Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers narrowly missed out placing second Monday in a quad match, but they also nearly finished fourth.

W-G scored 195, one stroke behind second-place Upper Scioto Valley and two strokes ahead of Perry’s 197.

With a team score of 156, Arlington was the runaway winner of Monday’s match among the four schools in varsity boys golf action at Colonial Golfers Club in Harrod.

Mayor: Sister Cities to go on

Despite a tragic fatal accident last week involving a 16-year-old exchange student, leaders in Wapakoneta and Lengerich, Germany, wish to continue a student exchange program between the two Sister Cities.
Wapakoneta Mayor Rodney Metz said after Monday’s Wapakoneta City Council meeting that he has been in constant contact with Ursula Hohmann-Assig, who is president of the Sister Cities organization in Lengerich, Germany.

OHSAA launches online football scoreboard

The Ohio High School Athletic Association launched a statewide online football scoreboard Monday in advance of the start of the Ohio high school football regular season, the OHSAA announced.

The scoreboard is considered official by the OHSAA, lists all scheduled games and is capable of containing box scores for each game.

Wapak netters win Lima City Invitational

By winning the Lima City Invitational, the Wapakoneta Redskins received good news as far as the Western Buckeye League race goes, since virtually all of the WBL tennis schools competed there Saturday with Wapakoneta at the Collett Street Courts in Lima.

The Redskins won the tournament with 96 points, ahead of WBL foe Shawnee’s 81.

Wapak varsity coach Mike Klock described how Saturday’s tournament positions his team in the WBL race.

Improvement set for fall

A Coldwater company is performing more than $58,000 in improvements to two Auglaize County-owned buildings this fall.
More than $39,000 of that work is being done at the Auglaize County Law Enforcement Center with more than $18,700 for waterproofing and more than $20,000 for expansion joints.
Auglaize County Administrator Mike Hensley said the work was necessary after some shifting and weathering at the building built in the late 1990s. Included in the work is power washing the building on Dearbaugh Avenue.
