Andrew Koch, 85

Andrew Christian Koch, 85, beloved husband of the late Patricia A. Koch (nee Cole). Dear father of Debra Gardner (Glenn), Kim Frazier (Jeff) and Andrea Aubuchon (Gary). Loving grandfather of Jeremy (Megan) and Evan Gardner, and Andy (Courtney) and Brandon Frazier, and Julia, Jennifer and Madison Aubuchon, and great-grandfather of Crew and June Frazier.
Andy worked for Standard Oil of Ohio for over 30 years and was especially proud of his volunteer work with NASA and the Hospice of Cleveland Clinic.

William M. ‘Bud’ Striff, 93

William M. ‘Bud’ Striff Jr., 93, of Wapakoneta, died at 8:32 a.m. Wednes-
day, July 31, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
He was born Sept. 2, 1919, in Lima, to Garnett (O’Conner) and William Merle Striff, who preceded him in death. He married Mary Margaret Thomas on June 9, 1946, and she preceded him in death July 12, 2000.

Pastor retires after life of service

After 32 years of service in the church — 18 of which he spent as pastor of First English Lutheran Church — the Rev. Steven Nelson has decided to retire.
Describing his work as “challenging and fun,” Nelson said his goal working as pastor was to help people connect with faith. Through the years, he has tried to meet this challenge in ways that made sense to the community.
“He’s a very passionate person,” church Council President Brian VanMeter said. “He teaches about compassion.”
VanMeter said the pastor is in tune with the needs of the community.

Dailey book details Ohio prison history

Frye returns to coaching after mandated break

Doug Frye awoke quite early Thursday morning, as the varsity football coach at Wapakoneta High School was anxious about being able to return to coaching after a mandated break from school activities following his retirement from teaching. Frye had been away since June 1. He was later rehired by the school district in late June.

Frye said he set his alarm to awake at 4:50 a.m. Thursday in advance of his team’s morning weightlifting and conditioning session, but his anticipation about returning was overwhelming.

For one of Doneta and Aaron Kaeck’s three children, winning isn’t everything but working to beat your older brother is the only thing.
While 14-year-old Josee says she would like to win with the best lamb during the Auglaize County Sheep Show, the best thing that could happen to her during the event would be to beat her 17-year-old brother, Jordan.
“I try to help her,” Jordan said before Josee interjects with a teasing air, “I don’t like him to and he’ll say I think I know it all. Really I just like showing my brother up.”
