Nailbenders dominate fair

Two long-time area residents, who are involved in construction and woodworking, took over as 4-H advisers for Waynesfield Nailbenders 30 years ago, just five years after the club formed.
Since Susan and Steve Sidener took over they have witnessed nothing but success for the club’s members.
When 15-year-old freshman Steve Hayes captured the top prize in woodworking at the Ohio State Fair this year, it continued that long tradition. A tradition that is so strong, that Steve Sidener admits he is starting to lose count.

Grant to update sewer facilities

A $15,780 grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission is to be used to upgrade five of the county-owned sewage treatment facilities.

Gaynell Market, 94

Gaynell Mae Market, 94, of Wapakoneta, died at 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at her residence.
She was born Aug. 16, 1918, in St. Marys, to Ilo (Sherman) and Ernest Barber, who preceded her in death.
Gaynell lived in the town of Wapakoneta until her marriage to Norman Market in 1938, when they moved to the farm that had belonged to Norman’s grandfather. Gaynell spent her entire adult life on that farm just outside of town in Duchouquet Township. She was preceded in death by a brother, Neil; her husband Norman Market; her daughter Sylvia Jean; and a great-grandchild.

Garman slated for rehab assignment in Arizona

PHOENIX — Brian Garman said he is “penciled in” for a rehab assignment the weekend of Aug. 17-18, after making progress with his injured throwing shoulder in Arizona.

Garman was sent to the Milwaukee Brewers’ spring training facility in Phoenix on July 17 to receive further treatment on his injured shoulder, diagnosed as a torn labrum. Garman has been on the disabled list since June 24. He is a relief pitcher in the Brewers’ minor league system, most recently with the Huntsville (Ala.) Stars.

Virginia Miller, 87

August 7, 2013

Virginia Rose Miller, 87, 411 E. Auglaize St., Wapakoneta, died at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at her residence.
She was born May 10, 1926, in Auglaize County, near New Knoxville, the daughter of Emma (Griesinger) and George Buddemeyer. She married Charles B. Miller on June 26, 1947, and he preceded her in death in 1993.
She is survived by two daughters, Pamela (Daniel) Girtz, of Little Fall, Minn., and Chandra (Robert) Hoffman, of Beavercreek; three grandchildren, Benjamin Girtz, Christopher Girtz, and Sara Wical; and two great-grandsons, Chase and Logan Wical.
