Tax levy on ballot

During an emergency meeting Wednesday, Auglaize County Board of Elections members decided by vote to allow a revised tax resolution for the village of Uniopolis to appear on the ballot in November.
Board members decided to grant the village’s request after Auglaize County Prosecuting Attorney Ed Pierce briefly addressed the board on the issue.

Redskins to face made over Bellefontaine squad

Wapakoneta varsity coach Doug Frye has labeled his team’s first three games as the toughest he has ever dealt with in 16 seasons associated with the Western Buckeye League.

The Redskins’ first of those three games will be played Friday, against the Bellefontaine Chieftains, in Wapak’s lone non-league regular season game of 2013, before the team opens WBL play with Kenton and Elida.

Bellefontaine went 1-8 last season and lost the 2012 opener to Wapak, 49-13.

Redskins still unbeaten after Bluffton win, 5-0

The Wapakoneta Redskins maintained their unbeaten record Wednesday after a 5-0 win over the Bluffton Pirates in a non-league varsity girls tennis match at the Wapakoneta Rotary Courts at Wapakoneta High School.

The Redskins improved to 6-0 overall this season.

Wapak’s win Wednesday was its third straight by a 5-0 score and fifth of the variety in six matches this season.

Wapakoneta crushes Parkway, 199-277

The Wapakoneta Redskins soundly defeated the Parkway Panthers, 199-277, in a varsity girls golf match Wednesday at the Wapakoneta Country Club.

Wapak senior Shelby Kohler was headed for a sub-40 round but took an eight on hole No. 8. Kohler finished with a par on the ninth hole.

Dog shelter

Once the new Auglaize County dog shelter is built, the dog warden is anticipating having to hire someone to staff it.

Betty Jordan, 88

Betty J. Jordan, 88, of Wapakoneta, formerly of Lima, died at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at Wapakoneta Manor.
She was born Jan. 16, 1925, in Lima, the daughter of Ollie (Price) and Julius Bates, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two children, David Finley, of Pickerington, and Kathy Stanley, of Wapakoneta.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lima, with the Rev. Wanda Werking officiating.
There will be no public visitation.
Arrangements are being conducted by the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Wapakoneta.

Peter M. Frame, 53

A memorial service for Peter M. Frame, 53, of Granville will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Swasey Chapel, Denison University in Granville with the Rev. Stephen H. Applegate as celebrant.
Peter, a consultant for The Partnering Group, was born in Lima, on Nov. 26, 1959, to Jane (Thuma) and the late Arthur Frame. Peter died at home on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013.

Edith Harshbarger, 70

Edith M. Harshbarger, 70, of Wapakoneta, died at 11:05 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at her residence.
She was born on March 14, 1943 in Elida, to Mary E. (Tucker) and Arthur C. Smith, who preceded her in death. On June 16, 1989, she married Ricky D. Harshbarger, and he survives in Wapakoneta.
