OHSAA launches online football scoreboard

The Ohio High School Athletic Association launched a statewide online football scoreboard Monday in advance of the start of the Ohio high school football regular season, the OHSAA announced.

The scoreboard is considered official by the OHSAA, lists all scheduled games and is capable of containing box scores for each game.

Wapak netters win Lima City Invitational

By winning the Lima City Invitational, the Wapakoneta Redskins received good news as far as the Western Buckeye League race goes, since virtually all of the WBL tennis schools competed there Saturday with Wapakoneta at the Collett Street Courts in Lima.

The Redskins won the tournament with 96 points, ahead of WBL foe Shawnee’s 81.

Wapak varsity coach Mike Klock described how Saturday’s tournament positions his team in the WBL race.

Improvement set for fall

A Coldwater company is performing more than $58,000 in improvements to two Auglaize County-owned buildings this fall.
More than $39,000 of that work is being done at the Auglaize County Law Enforcement Center with more than $18,700 for waterproofing and more than $20,000 for expansion joints.
Auglaize County Administrator Mike Hensley said the work was necessary after some shifting and weathering at the building built in the late 1990s. Included in the work is power washing the building on Dearbaugh Avenue.

Wapak places 2nd at Springbrook tournament

Nick Bruns’ score gave the Wapakoneta Redskins a second-place finish Saturday, as his 18-hole round of 88 was used in a tiebreaker against Kalida’s Even Recker, who shot an 89.

Bruns’ round was used as Wapak’s fifth score tiebreaker against Kalida, as the two teams each shot 327 on Saturday in the 20-team Springbrook Golf Club Tournament hosted by Allen East in Lima.

Wapak’s team score of 327 was a season low for the Redskins.

Starts key for Botkins in 3-0 sweep of W-G

WAYNESFIELD — The better they played at the start of games, the easier time the Botkins Trojans had trying to finish them Saturday in their 3-0 win against the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers in a non-league varsity volleyball match.

Botkins had a 5-0 lead to start Game 1 and a 7-0 lead to start Game 2, landing eventual wins by double digits, 25-14 and 25-11. In Game 2, the teams were tied at 5-5 in a match that W-G led at times, though Botkins eventually rallied for a 25-11 win.

Wapak runners make long trek to Sandusky

Wapakoneta made a long trek to Sandusky on Saturday to compete in the Panther Fun to Run, a 3200-yard event as opposed to a typical five-kilometer race, hosted by St. Mary Central Catholic at Mills Creek Golf Course.

The Redskins placed fourth of four teams in the Division I race.

Out of 89 runners, Sidney Sutton paced the Redskins with a 14th-place finish overall with a time of 13 minutes, 31.73 seconds.

BO Park progressing, mayor says more needs to be done

The newest park in the Wapakoneta park system hopefully should have drainage tile, grass seed and a shelter house by the end of this year, the mayor says, but the project continues to hit snags.

Botkins competes in Division I in West Milton

Pinned as a Division III cross country school, the Botkins Trojans entered the Division I and II race at the Bob Schul Invitational on Saturday in West Milton.

“It was great to see our kids race against different competition,” Botkins coach Ryan Gutman said. “It was good for them, and I hope it will mean good things for our team as we continue the season.”

The Botkins boys team finished ninth overall out of 21 teams, with 267 runners competing.

Botkins records 1st win with victory over Fairlawn

Nolan Greve accounted for half of his team’s goals Saturday, as the Botkins Trojans notched their first win of the season with an 8-1 victory over the Fairlawn Jets in a Shelby County Athletic League varsity boys soccer game.

Greve scored four times in Saturday’s game.

Jacob Barnett scored three goals for the Botkins, while Kaleb Hanby added the other one.

Eric Egbert and Barnett each tallied an assist for Botkins.

The Trojans moved to 1-0-1 with Saturday’s win.

Third-grader loves playing sports
