Roger Patton, 83

July 19, 2013

Roger F. “Bud” Patton 83, of Wapakoneta, died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013, at his niece’s residence.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Wapakoneta. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery near Uniopolis.
Friends may call Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Other arrangements are incomplete at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta.

Audry Monnin, 80

Audry J. Monnin, 80, Hardin Wapak Rd., Botkins, died at 11:25 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 30, 1932, in Shelby County, near Russia, to the late Matilda (Sherman) and Wilbert Monnin. He married Marietta R. Heitkamp on Oct. 2, 1956, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Maria Stein. She survives in Botkins.

Debra Hague, 55

Debra K. Hague, 55, of St. Johns, died at 1 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, surrounded by her family.
She was born July 2, 1958, in Coldwater, the daughter of Julietta (Kunk) and Frederick Trafzer. Her mother and step-father, Julietta and Virgil Schwieterman, survive in Celina, and her father and step-mother, Frederick and Mary Trafzer survive in Wapakoneta. On July 21, 1979, she married Dennis A. Hague, and he survives.

Dixon set to perform

Former American Idol competitor Colton Dixon will highlight this year’s Family, Faith and Friends Concert scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday in Harmon Park.
The event is being hosted by the Wapakoneta Area Ministerial Association. Nan Stiger, one of many people helping with the organization of the event, said they expect a big crowd.
“Last year we had about 3,500,” Stiger said. “We are hoping for that and many more this year.”

‘Bedder’ team wins

The water-soaked contestants in the Bed Races for charity event felt the best of anyone Thursday. Not only did they manage to stay cool in the scorching 90 degree heat, but they also raised money for local charities by participating.

Former Ohio St. coach makes 3 stops in Wapak area

Earle Bruce’s passion for football has not waned at the age of 82.

His passion for the game originated at the high school level in the state of Ohio, and that is where he directed it Thursday in one of three visits to the Wapakoneta area, as the former Ohio State Buckeyes head football coach spoke Thursday afternoon to two area high school football teams. He also stopped by The Gardens at Wapakoneta on Walnut Street and at the Cridersville Healthcare Center.

Soldier’s dream defending country

The world has a way of twisting together the fates of people and sometimes those twists and turns can turn cruel, and even unbearable, especially to friends and family that lose a loved one.
Their paths crossed with 25-year-old Sonny Zimmerman, a 2005 graduate of Waynesfield-Goshen High School, who died Tuesday while serving in the U.S. Army over seas.
Shortly before noon Wednesday, U.S. Department of Defense officials announced Zimmerman died Tuesday, July 16, in Mushaka, Afghanistan, of wounds he suffered when his vehicle was attacked by a rocket propelled grenade.

County plans for fuel upgrade
