Rain impacts street sales

Thunderstorms and rain showers may have dampened business Saturday morning at the street sales held during the Summer Moon Festival, but as the skies cleared the afternoon attendance definitely picked up.

Betty Stolzenburg, 81

Betty L. Stolzenburg, 81, of Wapakoneta, died at 12:15 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2013, at Auglaize Acres in Wapakoneta.

Local diving club taking form

A local diving club is taking shape at the Wapakoneta WaterPark in an effort to increase interest in the event among youth.

The twice-per-week diving instruction sessions are being led by Dylon Webb, who works at the waterpark. Webb, 20, from Wapakoneta, is a graduate of Wapakoneta High School. He will be a junior at the University of Findlay starting next school year.

Webb dove all four years of high school and dove competitively for a brief time during his freshman year at UF. He also coached in Celina the past two years.

Albert J. Bustetter, 92

July 19, 2013

Albert J. Bustetter, 92, of Wapakoneta, died at 8:45 a.m. Friday, July 19, 2013, at Auglaize Acres. He was born July 27, 1920, in Wapakoneta, the son of Frances (Fischer) and John Bustetter, who preceded him in death. On June 5, 1946, he married Evelyn A. Seitz, and she died July 16, 2009.
Survivors include three children, Sister Mary Assumpta “Nancy,” of Euclid, James Bustetter, of North Miami, Fla., and Susan (Tom) Niese, of Wapakoneta; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his twin brother, Alfred Bustetter.

Roger Patton, 83

Roger F. “Bud” Patton 83, of Wapakoneta, died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013, at his niece’s residence.
Roger was born Feb. 24, 1930, in Auglaize County, to Lousetta and Robert M. Patton, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by a brother, Paul C. Patton, of Wapakoneta; two nieces, Lora and Jim Wutrich, of Altoona, Pa., and Lisa and Greg Salmons, of Wapakoneta; and several great-nieces and nephews, Mitchell Bailey, Jimmy Wutrich, Nicole Benline, and James Benline; and close friends, Gary and Nancy Foster, of Alaska.

A passion for cars and talking to people about them is what their owners say brought them out to display their customized, restored and historical vehicles along the streets of downtown Wapakoneta on Friday night.
Chris Sorensen, who restores vehicles, brought a Thunderbird he bought just a month ago to the Aug-Mer Shrine Club Car-Truck-Bike Show. He also brought a Mustang he has been showing for five years.

Six miles of county roads to be repaved

A little more than 6 miles of county roadways are to be repaved this year.
Another approximate 5 miles of township roads also are to be repaved as part of the county and townships’ annual paving program approved by Auglaize County commissioners this week.

Bid provide savings

The cost of resurfacing 8 1/2 miles of County Road 33A comes at a savings of more than $370,660.
A bid of more than $1.6 million for the project was submitted to the Auglaize County commissioners this week. Auglaize County Engineer Doug Reinhart had estimated that the cost would be closer to $2 million.
