ACME: Roughriders get revenge on Wapak in 12-4 win

MINSTER — It took four meetings for St. Marys to finally beat Wapakoneta this summer, but the wait was worthwhile.

St. Marys came back to record a 12-4 win Thursday over Wapakoneta in the losers bracket final, in the double-elimination Auglaize County ACME sectional baseball tournament, held at Hanover Street Park in Minster. With the win, St. Marys clinched a berth in the ACME district tournament which starts July 10.

Garman still on disabled list, weighing future options

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Brian Garman is still on the disabled list and currently weighing his options for the near future.

Garman, a Wapakoneta native, is a relief pitcher for the Huntsville (Ala.) Stars, a Double-A minor league baseball affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Garman was placed on the 7-day disabled list June 24.

To find out if he could be cleared to return to action, Garman said he attempted to throw for the first time since his injury Monday, the first day he was eligible to be activated. But the throwing session did not go well, he said.

Amanda Cope, 26

Amanda M. Cope, 26, of Cridersville, died at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, at home.
She was born Dec. 31, 1986, in Lima, to Margaret A. (Mullins) and Mike E. Cope, who survive in Cridersville.
Amanda was a graduate of Wapakoneta High School, Class of 2005.
She is survived by three children: Espn Wolfe and Bentley Wolfe, of Wapakoneta, and Serenity N. Cope, at home; a brother Joseph M. Cope, at home; and a step-sister, Christina Cope, of Allegan, Mich.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Bayliff and Son Funeral Home in Cridersville.

Peggy McKenzie, 74

Peggy Sue McKenzie 74, of Wapakoneta, died at 5 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at her residence.
She was born on Nov.1, 1938, in McPherson, Kan., to Zelma and Buck Jones, who preceded her in death. On Nov 2, 1956, she married Maxey McKenzie and, he survives.
Also Surviving are three children, Jeff McKenzie, Jenny (Jeff) Moon, and Janie (Gary) Hickfang; a sister, Norlene (Bernie) Cotterman; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Bud Jones.

Patricia Pack, 54

Patricia A. Pack, 54, of Wapakoneta, died at 7:52 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at the Joint Township District Memorial Hospital Emergency Room in St. Marys.
Arrangements are incomplete at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta.

Joyce Patton, 53

Joyce (Stewart) Patton, 53, 137 Mound Street, Sindey, passed away at 3:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 7, 1959 in Sidney, the daughter of the late Dorothy (Zedeker) and Ralph Stewart.
Joyce is survived by a son, Zachary Martin, of Sidney.
A Celebration of Joyce’s Life will be held at from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Monday at the Cromes Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., Sidney.

Michael Carroll, 36

Michael Carroll, 36, of Wapakoneta, died at 2:58 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, on State Route 198 following a motorcycle accident.
He was born Dec. 10, 1976, in Celina, the son of Robbie Schott Murphy. His mother and step-father, Roy Murphy, survive in Mendon.
Also surviving are a grandmother, Mary Lou Schott, of Celina; a brother, Roy (Keely) Murphy, of Mendon; a sister, Jennifer (Todd) Germann, of Celina; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Robert Schott Sr. and Betty and Jack Murphy.

Joan Linder Scheer, 86

Joan (Phyllis) Linder Scheer, 86, of Westerville, formerly of Wapakoneta, died at 12:05 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2013, at Parkside Senior Village, in Westerville.
She was born July 30, 1926, in Wapakoneta, the daughter of Bernice (Wissman) and Peter Rypkema, who preceded her in death. On Feb. 26, 1949, she married Richard Linder, and he died Jan. 2, 1986. Then on April 28, 1993, she married Lafe “Jack” Scheer, Jr., and he died Oct. 22, 2006.
