Emily Ann Saam 17, of Wapakoneta died at 12:50 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident at State Route 501 and Linzee Road.
She was born in Lima on June 3, 1996, to Kelly and Alex E. Saam Jr. and Jennifer E.(Rhodes) and John Ickes, both of Wapakoneta who survive.

CRIDERSVILLE — With tree limbs and branches strewn throughout yards, roofs torn off of buildings and broken shards of glass on the sidewalk, Cridersville Mayor Lorali Myers walks down the center of the street conversing with residents as she makes her way to the Cridersville Fire Department — the command center after a unconfirmed tornado ripped through the village.
“We will be OK just as long as nobody is hurt,” Myers says assuring one resident along West Main Street as she walks with a quickened pace. “Everyone seems to be OK and that is good.”

2nd high wind storm hits Wapakoneta

Five changes made to prep softball rules

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Two new rules regarding the use of electronic devices in high school softball were among the five changes approved by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Softball Rules Committee at its June 10‐12 meeting in Indianapolis. All rules changes were subsequently approved by the NFHS Board of Directors.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association abides by NFHS rules.

Rev. Donald Hurley, 86

Rev. Donald E. Hurley, 86, of Cridersville and formerly of Wapakoneta, died at 4:07 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Otterbein-Cridersville Retirement Community.
He was born March 20, 1927, in Spencerville, the son of the late Della (Orchid) and Roy Hurley. On May 14, 1947, he married Betty June Richardson, who died Oct. 31, 2011.

Wapak swimmers seek league title

BLUFFTON — The Wapakoneta Waves will be headed to Bluffton Community Pool on Friday and Saturday to compete in the two-day Elks Invitational and Western Ohio Aquatic League (WOAL) Championships.

Approximately 600 youth, from kindergarten through graduation high school seniors, will be participating, from area pools including Sherwood Park Community Club, Westside, Shawnee Country Club, Wapakoneta, Bluffton, Ada, Lost Creek and Kenton.

With upward of 100 swimmers, Wapak’s depth has translated into success historically.

CRIDERSVILLE — Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Choices executives and donors moved the first shovels of dirt Tuesday to start a 9-month, $1 million project to construct a life enrichment center at Otterbein-Cridersville.
The senior citizen facility held a special groundbreaking ceremony at the retirement community in Cridersville with corporate executives, village administrators and donors present.
