Charleen Zeigler, 62

July 31, 2013

Charleen J. “Janey” Zeigler, 62, of Wapakoneta, died at 4:40 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, in Lima.
She was born Jan. 31, 1951, in Lima, to Genevieve (Johnston) and Charles Huebner, who preceded her in death. On June 28, 1969, she married David F. Zeigler, and he survives in Wapakoneta.
Also surviving are two daughters, Jennifer and Anthony Fisher, of Wapakoneta, and Samantha and Derrick Ferguson, of Wapakoneta, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, three brothers, and three sisters.

Marjorie Stephenson, 75

Marjorie C. Stephenson, 75, 2014 Eagle Brooke Parkway, Celina, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 9:25 a.m. Sunday, July 28, 2013.
She was born Jan. 6, 1938, in Ohio City, to the late L. Lucille (High) and Walter C. Brown. On Feb. 6, 1960, she married Chester Lee Stephenson, who lives in Celina.

Pee Wee showmen sparkle in prelude

If a person is too young or too old to compete in 4-H, the Auglaize County Fair still does not discriminate.
The Auglaize County Pork Producers held its annual Pee Wee and Adult Showmanship competition on Monday.
The competition has showmanship for the 5-, 6-, 7-, and 8-year-old classes as well as one for adults. A total of 81 youth and 10 adults participated in the contest and smiles could be seen everywhere.

Garman dealing with injury in Arizona

PHOENIX — Wapakoneta native Brian Garman is essentially sitting idle in Arizona.

Garman was sent to the Milwaukee Brewers’ spring training facility in Phoenix on July 17 to receive further treatment on his injured shoulder, diagnosed as a torn labrum.

Garman is a relief pitcher for the Huntsville Stars, a Double-A team in the Southern League based in Huntsville, Ala. He has been on the disabled list since June 24.

Drew Lament places 5th at national decathlon meet

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Drew Lament took fifth place in a national decathlon championship meet recently, competing in the Intermediate boys division (ages 15-16) in the USA Track & Field Junior Olympic Outdoor Championships on July 22-23 in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Lament, who was competing unattached at the national meet, will be a sophomore at Waynesfield-Goshen High School for the 2013-14 school year.

His final points total was 5,481, just four points behind the fourth-place finisher and fewer than 200 points behind the champion in the Intermediate standings.

Zimmerman laid to rest

NEW HAMPSHIRE — An overcast sky with drizzles of rain on a chilly Saturday greeted approximately 500 people turn out for the service at Waynesfield-Goshen High School. Approximately 1,500 gathered at U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Sonny Zimmerman’s final resting place at Walnut Hill Cemetery near New Hampshire.
Zimmerman was killed in action July 16 in Afghanistan while on mounted patrol by a rocket propelled grenade.

QRM exec: Full inquiry would show firm’s spill total lower

An area cement company executive contends fewer than 30 gallons and closer to 8 gallons of diesel fuel entered the city’s sewer system and the Auglaize River and he hopes the authorities conduct a thorough investigation which he believes will show other contributing factors to diesel fuel found in the river.
