Ted Shelby, 57

July 23, 2013

“Terrible” Ted E. Shelby, 57, of Mendon, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013, after losing his long battle with cancer.
He was born in St. Marys, to the late Dorothy “Dot” and Ned Shelby.
Before graduating from St. Marys Memorial High School in 1973, Ted had already developed a strong interest in cars (he was very proud that as a teenager, he owned not one, but two 1970 Pontiac Trans Ams). After high school, he went on to attend the GM Automotive Service Education Program.

James Schaub, 75

James H. Schaub, 75, of Wapakoneta, died at 4:55 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2013, at Lima Memorial Health System.
Arrangements are incomplete at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta.

Betty Stolzenburg, 81

July 23, 2013

Betty L. Stolzenburg, 81, of Wapakoneta, died at 12:15 a.m. Monday July 22, 2013, at Auglaize Acres in Wapakoneta.
She was born Nov. 11, 1931, in St. Marys, the daughter of Mary (Heath) and Otis Chilcoat, who preceded her in death. On April 12, 1948, she married Vernon F. Stolzenburg, and he died Dec. 25, 2012.
Surviving are four sons, Gary (Annette) Stolzenburg, of Vernon, Wash., Rick (Kim) Stolzenburg, of Wapakoneta, Randy (Rebecca) Stolzenburg, of Wapakoneta, and Steven Stolzenburg, of Wapakoneta; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Nancy Denney, 70

Nancy L. Denney, 70, left this earth and gained her wings at 4:05 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2013, at Shawnee Manor after a courageous battle against cancer.
She was born on Dec. 6, 1942, in Lima, to Carmen (Dardio) and Russell White, who preceded her in death. On Sept. 2, 1961 she married Richard “Pat” Denney, who survives in Wapakoneta.

Flags for freedom fighter

WAYNESFIELD — Members from several area veterans organizations gathered Monday and presented flags to the parents and the wife of U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Sonny Zimmerman, who died last Tuesday while serving in Afghanistan.
Members from the VFW Post 8445 men’s and women’s auxiliaries, the Ohio District 2 Women’s Auxiliary, Freedom’s Colors, and the Wapakoneta AMVETS served on the Color Guard as the flags were presented to Zimmerman’s father, Chris, at his home in Waynesfield, and to his wife, Morgan, and step-daughter, Riley, at their home in Fort Shawnee.

Deal reached on farm animals

WAYNESFIELD — Waynesfield Village Council members appear to have reached a compromise with two residents in the village concerning a proposal for new regulations governing farm animals within the village corporation limit.
