Marilyn Rhind, 86

June 28, 2013

Marilyn L. Ley Rhind, 86, of Lima, died at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, at Springview Manor in Lima.
She was born July 3, 1926, in Rockwood, Tenn., the daughter of Helen Faye East and Earl Abel Gibson. On Dec. 12, 1943, she married Bill Ley, and he died Dec. 30, 1974. On Nov. 1, 1978, she married Donald Rhind, and he died Jan. 20, 1999.

Michael Miller, 65

Michael O. Miller, 65, 1522 Neil Ave., St. Marys, died Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
He was born Sept. 9, 1947, in Celina, the son of Patricia Ann (Otto) and J. Edward Miller, who preceded him in death. He married Paulette Christopher on Oct. 21, 1972, and she survives at the residence.

ACME: Wapak downs Sidney

Wapakoneta ACME, despite only three hits Thursday, managed an 8-2 win over Sidney ACME in summer baseball action at Wapakoneta High School.

Not until a Jordan Kaeck single in that fourth inning did Wapak record a hit Thursday. Before then, the team had 10 baserunners, all reaching either by error, walks or hits-by-pitch.

Wapak starting pitcher Keaton Metz allowed two runs and five hits after three innings but settled in to throw four scoreless innings with only two baserunners the rest of the game.

Margaret Elsass, 100

Margaret C. Elsass, 100, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at the Wapakoneta Manor.
She was born Dec. 25, 1912, to Mary Anne and George Loegel, who preceded her in death. On April 8, 1934, she married Vernon “Bill” Leroy Elsass, and he preceded her in death on Jan 4, 1982.

Marian Smith, 89

Marian I. Smith, 89, 307 Stinebaugh Drive, Wapakoneta, died peacefully at 12:15 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2013, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 5, 1923, in Buckland, to Vera (Stout) and Oscar Sprague, who preceded her in death. On Feb. 6, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pa., she married Thomas A. Smith, who survives.

Center change opposed

Members of the Wapakoneta City Schools Board of Education this week passed a resolution opposing state legislative plans for changes to the appointment to career center boards of education.
“The heart of the bill takes our school board representatives off and appoints members from different entities,” Superintendent Keith Horner said. “We want to be part of the board.”
His comments and feelings were echoed by local school districts throughout the state.

Wind turbine leases to end

Executives with an international alternative energy company have decided against developing approximately 5,000 acres in Auglaize County and another 7,000 acres in Shelby County into a future wind farm.

ACME: Wapak blanks LCC

Wapakoneta ACME starting pitcher Quinn Lotridge made quick work of the Lima Central Catholic ACME offense Wednesday, mixing hitting the corners with his fastball and throwing his curve late in counts.

The game lasted less than 90 minutes and was finished despite threats of rain in the forecast around the 6:30 p.m. start time.

In five innings pitched, Lotridge gave up one hit and allowed just three baserunners total Wednesday, making 71 pitches in the outing. Lotridge struck out seven hitters in his team’s 6-0 win in summer baseball action at Wapakoneta High School.
