Redskins squeek by Celina in tune-up game

CELINA — With league play finished and the sectional tournament on the horizon, the Wapakoneta Redskins scheduled an extra game against the Celina Bulldogs Thursday to keep the team loose before playoffs begin.

Wapakoneta starting pitcher Johnny Crawford, who went 5-plus innings and allowed only two earned runs in the sixth inning, picked up the victory for the Redskins, 4-2.

Funeral arrangements are being completed with the Miller Funeral Home in St. Marys.

Kelly Hennon, 53

Kelly B. Hennon, 53, of Botkins, died at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, following a sudden illness.
He was born Aug. 23, 1959, in Lima, the son of Letha (Hager) and Donald Method of New Knoxville. He is survived by his wife, Lorie A. (Ott) Hennon, and their date of marriage was March 14, 1981.

Eva Motter, 89

Eva M. Motter, 89, died at 1:28 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Lima Memorial Health System.
She was born Feb. 7, 1924, in Foraker, to Mary Ellen (Giberson) and Harry Robinson. On Feb. 9, 1942, she married Willis Wilbur “Bill” Motter, and he preceded on Aug. 21, 1969.

Kathy Luma, 76

Kathy L. Luma 76, of Wapakoneta died at 2:08 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.
She was born June 22, 1936, in Lima, to Edna (Patterson) and William H. Miller who preceded her in death. On Dec. 7, 1953, she married Cletus M. Luma, and he died April 8, 2007.

Kelly Hennon, 53

Kelly B. Hennon, 53, of Botkins, died at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, following a sudden illness.
He was born Aug. 23, 1959, in Lima.
His mother and step-father, Letha and Donald Method, survive in New Knoxville. On March 14, 1981, he married Lorie A. Ott, and she survives.

Trip of a lifetime

A group of area residents recently went on “a trip of a lifetime,” as they got to explore a country halfway around the world.
A week trip to China, that was offered through the Wapakoneta Area Chamber of Commerce, attracted several people from not only the Wapakoneta area but also surrounding area and other states.
“The chamber did it all,” Wapakoneta resident Pam Lange said of the chamber, who planned the entire event. “We did tourist things, along with other things, such as having dinner in someone’s home.”

A cut above

As a little girl, a Wapakoneta High School senior remembers her great aunt wearing wigs after she was diagnosed with cancer.
It is a memory that has stuck with her through the years and inspired her to help others.

Ronald’s Walk: Kids helping kids

Kids helping kids was what Ronald’s Walk was all about on Friday at Wapakoneta Elementary School.
The walk was the culmination of a year of fundraising by students, staff members, parents and the community for the Ronald McDonald House, in Dayton.
“We are helping kids,” first-grader Caitlyn Rostorfer said.
The 7-year-old said by collecting pull tabs, they are able to help children and their families, who stay at the Ronald McDonald House while the children are sick.
