Francis Lowry, 92

April 16, 2013

Wm. Francis Lowry, 92, of Cridersville, died at 9:12 p.m., Saturday, April 13, 2013, at his residence.
He was born April 26, 1920, in Allen County, to Dorothy Grace (Sellers) and Samuel Price Lowry. On Aug. 5, 1950, he married Ellen Wolfe, and she survives in Cridersville.
Mr. Lowry had been a farmer and was a member of the Auglaize County Farm Bureau. He was a member of Rousculp Church of Christ, Uniopolis Fire Department and was a Fairmount Cemetery Board Member. He was a former Union Township Trustee.

Another shut-out victory for the Redskins

After a rocky start to the season, the Wapakoneta varsity baseball team is doing what they can to get back on track.

Back-to-back shutouts isn’t a bad place to start.

Traveling to Kenton Monday afternoon for a makeup of Friday’s game, the Wapakoneta Redskins run-ruled the Kenton Wildcats, 11-0.

Redskins shutout New Bremen in weekend action

The plays which have been vexing the Wapakoneta Redskins in the past four games instead bewitched the New Bremen Cardinals on Saturday at Redskin Field.

The Redskins captured an 8-0 win against the Cardinals behind a stellar pitching performance from senior Brandon Miller to end a four-game losing streak, while the Cardinals wasted a gutsy performance on the mound by pitcher Trevor Kitzmiller to fall to 2-7 on the season.

CBS News is reporting that police have surveillance video of someone bringing in multiple backpacks to the area of the explosions 20 minutes before they occurred.
Blood and limbs strewn throughout the blast area.

Laughing out loud: WHS students put on comedy

A group of high school students enjoyed making audiences laugh over the weekend during their annual spring musical, as they had a fun time showing their more humorous sides.

More than 50 Wapakoneta High School students helped put on the production of “Once Upon A Mattress” this weekend.

“This is the best opening night we’ve ever had,” senior Cedric Gegel said.

Gegel remarked this production was different than the ones done previously during his high school career.

Solar power’s part

Poles just sticking out of the ground a few weeks ago along Wapak Cridersville Road now includes panels of dark glass slightly tilted to the south and east.

Crews from AP Alternatives, working for Columbus-based Solar Planet Inc., are methodically working to convert 30 acres of city ground into a solar panel field that will generate 3 megawatts of electric power for the city of Wapakoneta.

Botkins breaks ground for new school

BOTKINS — Approximately 500 people turned out to celebrate the ceremonial groundbreaking of the new elementary and high school scheduled to be built in Botkins.

“Whether you are a taxpayer, voter, or volunteer, you have helped make our future brighter,” Botkins Local Schools Superintendent Connie Schneider said.

Schneider thanked school board members and the volunteer Steering Committee that worked on educating the public and making tough decisions along the way.

Irene Campbell, 88

April 12, 2013

Irene Campbell, 88, formerly of Botkins, died at 5:45 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2013, at Roselawn Manor Nursing Home in Spencerville.
She was born Dec. 26, 1924, in Keyo, Wis. Her adopted parents were Matilda (Holtkamp) and Ed Knierim, who preceded her in death. On March 17, 1946, she married Joseph Campbell, who died Feb. 9, 1970.

Darlene Hall, 78

April 12, 2013

Darlene J. Hall, 78, of Wapakoneta, died at 11:07 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Lima Memorial Health System due to complications from open heart surgery.
She was born Oct. 23, 1934, in North Baltimore, the daughter of Gladys (Nungester) and Herman C. Crow Sr., who preceded her in death. On Jan. 28, 1955, she married Carl L. Hall, and he survives.
